This group is for people who want to bring their dogs along when they hike, instead of leaving their best friends at home alone.
The pace of our hikes is more relaxed, our groups are smaller, and trails are reasonably easy. We take our "goof off" time seriously, especially if there's a puddle, creek, lake or river around. Our hikers and their dogs sometimes get dirty and wet, but the dogs always have a good time.
We walk at a moderately brisk pace & cover about 2.5 to 3 MPH, unless otherwise specified.
Hikes are generally 3-6 miles long, about 1-2 hours of actual walking, plus play time.
READ THE HIKE DESCRIPTION, it will tell you what you need to know.
EVENT HOSTS SET THE PACE OF THE HIKE.
Don't sign up for hikes that are too slow, too fast or too difficult for your ability level.
If you're looking for a power-hiking group, this isn't it! There are lots of other great meetup groups out there for that. We're about spending QUALITY TIME with our dogs. However, we ARE a hiking group, and a lot of our hikes require you to be reasonably fit.
If you want to host a hike that suits your abilities and preferences, let me know and I'll get you started as an Event Host. It's pretty easy.
Dogs must be friendly, well behaved & short-leashed. NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES over 6'.
MALE DOGS MUST BE NEUTERED. This is not open for discussion!
Big dog owners are expected to be extra careful. A wee dog can get hurt easily by the big guys. There are some areas where our pups can run offleash, but you might be asked to keep your big dog leashed up, if he has a lot of energy, even though the little guys can run loose. Sorry, but we often have 100 lb dogs hiking with 10 lb dogs.
PLEASE BRING WATER FOR YOUR DOGS, or STAY HOME! We don't care if you're thirsty, but it really bothers us if your dog is. WE STOP OFTEN TO WATER THE DOGS. Seriously, folks, your dogs need water on a hike.
KEEP YOUR RSVP CURRENT, so we're not standing around waiting. Our pups don't wait well.
WE HIT THE TRAIL PROMPTLY AT THE SCHEDULED TIME, plan to arrive before the time shown.
WE REQUIRE A PICTURE FOR MEMBERSHIP, PREFER ONE OF YOUR PUP and his/her breed and name. Unlike other meetup groups, this really matters to us because of the "DOG" factor. It's also a security measure for our Event Hosts, and it helps others remember who you are when you hike with us.
Please also include a last name or initial if you have a common name, just helps us keep our members straight and makes the Organizers job a LOT easier. It's a real hassle for us, if you don't do it.
Take just a minute to read it before your first hike with us, or before you sign up. We expect our Dog Pack members to adhere to these policies at all times. When we have a group of dogs on our hikes, we really do need a few rules to protect all of our pups.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL MEMBERS HIKE AT THEIR OWN RISK. ORGANIZERS AND EVENT HOSTS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INJURIES TO YOU OR YOUR DOG. WE TRY HARD TO MAINTAIN ORDER ON OUR HIKES, BUT YOUR SAFETY (AND YOUR DOG'S SAFETY) IS ULTIMATELY UP TO YOU. IF YOU READ AND FOLLOW THE RULES, YOU'LL ENJOY YOUR DAY A WHOLE LOT MORE.....AND SO WILL THE REST OF US.
