This is one of my favorite trails in the Mt Tam area. The cascading falls wind down a mile plus trail, with most of the action about 1/2 mile in. This area is great for capturing smokey water with neutral density filters, or capturing the forest.
Gear- a sturdy tripod and release, a ND filter, at least a wide angle lens, and maybe a telephoto and macro lens too. A lunch, water, and layers. I find a wet proof cushion helpful to kneel or sit on. Garden pads work great.
About the trail-
This is a dark, STEEP trail with a slick surface. This trail is only for those that can handle a steep grade and slippery mud. The elevation gain is about 1100 feet, with most of the falls being at[masked] feet elevation. There are no bathrooms, and parking is only available for a few cars. Car pooling is mandatory. Along this trail are several types of beautiful mushrooms that are great for macro work. Picking mushrooms in the Marin Water Shed is illegal.
