Blues Concert Paddles #3

Vincent Hayes

We will Meetup at the Summit Rd put-in at 5:45, start spotting cars at 6:00, with paddles in at 6:30. The bands will be taking the stage from 7:00 to 9:00 so we should be able to hear them as we paddle into the backwater of the dam and have plenty of entertainment as we float around.

This is a very easy paddle, about 1-1.5 hours (or more), and a perfect time for "Newbies" to join in and see why we love to do what we do.  If you know someone that has wanted to get out and go, bring them with you for the best seat in town.  We will have a safety briefing prior to the launch and answer any questions.  …no, you can’t go over the dam, unless you REALLY try to.

Vitale’s will be delivering pizza to the canoe launch (next to the dam) for cash sales and big tips.  Order your pizza once you are near the dam and be sure to watch for it (please don’t make them wait for you).  When you order be sure to let them know that you are with West Michigan Kayaking Club and that you are in your boat waiting at the dam boat launch.  (616)[masked]

Remember, EVERY paddle is a Ranger Paddle.  Help keep our rivers beautiful by picking up after those that don’t.  Let me know what you picked up and you could get a ‘Ranger’ tag on your profile.  Photos of the bazar items are encouraged.  Last year I found a yellow school bus.

Hope to see you there.

BTW!  If the concert is canceled, we are canceled, unless you really want to paddle it anyway.  Watch the radar.  Last year two of us paddled alone for what I think was the best concert of the summer.

What a great paddle with great people. Thanks to everyone that was able to make it and brave the current. Hopefully the river will be back to somewhat normal and we won't need to fight a current to enjoy the music. See you next Tuesday.

I do not have an anchor...May have to go up on shore near the dam? See you all there at 5:45 or earlier.

The rain is moving out and the clouds will turn to partly sunny by paddle time. The river is up so we really won't need to worry about the sand bars and most of the rocks we usually hit. HOWEVER, The dam is flowing very well and a couple gates have been opened up completely and we will need to be VERY careful around and near the dam when you go to get your pizza. I will encourage an anchor if you have one, or a buddy that does. Lets be careful tonight and have a great time.
