Dynasty League Baseball

Are there any baseball fans on this board? This is a call for players for a tabletop baseball fantasy league. Unhappy with the Mariners? Did you love Moneyball? Have you ever wished you could run a team, but don't have $180M to drop on salaries? Well, you just might be in luck! In this game, you are the manager and the GM, and it won't cost you a dime!

The game is called Dynasty League (which used to be http://boardgamegeek.com/image/1604147/pursue-the-pennant) and it turns player stats into cards for use in a ~30 minute baseball simulation game. The simulation covers everything from batters to pitchers to park effects to umpires, to steals, bunts, and the hit and run.

I'm planning to run a league of six to eight teams to play 50-60 game seasons. We would start with a draft, create a schedule, and then play and report the games. I would supply cards and rules, keep track of rosters, standings, trades, free agents, player injuries, etc.

Post here if you're interested (I'm willing to play demo games for anyone who's on the fence). If I get enough interest, I'll set a date for winter meetings and then a draft.

I've sent an email to David (who already picked) predicting the first round choices. Let's see if I'm right :)

Looking forward to meeting everyone tonight! I'll be bringing player cards and a copy of the rules, so anyone who's interested in a demo game can see one. Other orders of business include:

    1) Finalizing a schedule (proposed: 2 3-game series against each other team, for 30 total games, and a 5-game championship series)

    2) Picking the teams that make up the player pool. So far we have:
    - Seattle (default)
    - Detroit (Galen's pick)
    - Baltimore (my pick)

    3) Figuring out the draft order. (We'll draw straws). The draft will be a snake draft, where the order reverses in each new round.

    4) Picking our team names and stadiums

    5) Finalizing other rules:
    - Number of keepers (proposed: 8)
    - Roster size (proposed: 25 with an open free agent pool)
    - Whether to use "clutch" and other low-impact game rules

    6) Anything else?

I had to remove myself from the Winter Meeting, but that does not diminish my enthusiasm for the League. I look forward to much baseball goodness.

Anyone ever play any football boardgames? Baseball is probably better for a full season, but I think football is better for individual games. I have Stratomatic Football for the PC but don't own the boardgame.

I'm on the fence. I'll have to see how the scheduling works before I can commit but i used to play Pursue the Pennant back in the day and loved it so hope I can make it work. I'll be there on the 18th.

I added a tentative date for winter meetings. We'll discuss league organization, rules, and length of schedule, and set a draft order and date. If anyone *can't* make this date, let me know, and we'll set up another. I don't think absolutely everyone needs to be there, but it would be nice to have a significant majority.

I've got the 2012 cards. It'll take a month or two to get the 2013 cards, if how long it took the first time is any guide. So I was planning to start with 2012.

I'd love to see Hot Corner Baseball, if you wouldn't mind showing it off.

No prob, I'll bring it along for you to check out. DLB is a smoother system, but Hot Corner has its coolness too -- the system is different enough and effective enough to admire.

Just to clarify - if a game takes 30 minutes, and 50-60 games are to be played, does that mean 25-30 hours total for the season?

It does. We may adjust the number of games downward at the winter meetings. :) Usually you play a season over the course of several months, three or four games at a time.
