August Book Club Discussion - "Heft" by Liz Moore

Book club member Angela recommended this character driven book and said she could not put it down. From Amazon: Former academic Arthur Opp weighs 550 pounds and hasn't left his rambling Brooklyn home in a decade. Twenty miles away, in Yonkers, seventeen-year-old Kel Keller navigates life as the poor kid in a rich school and pins his hopes on what seems like a promising baseball career—if he can untangle himself from his family drama. The link between this unlikely pair is Kel’s mother, Charlene, a former student of Arthur’s. After nearly two decades of silence, it is Charlene’s unexpected phone call to Arthur—a plea for help—that jostles them into action. Through Arthur and Kel’s own quirky and lovable voices, Heft tells the winning story of two improbable heroes whose sudden connection transforms both their lives. Like Elizabeth McCracken’s The Giant’s House, Heft is a novel about love and family found in the most unexpected places.

Sorry I couldn't make it last night. I've been suffering with a sciatic nerve in my leg. Do to my inability to get out as much as I want I have read lots of book. I'd like to recommend a book called The Expats by Chris Pavon. It's excellent, grabs you on the first page with a story you will not forget. Please read it so I can discuss it with someone. It's Chris's first book. Thanks, Kathleen Lamb

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
