“ Cory led the group last night and was the last to read a 2000 word short story he had written some years ago. The story was very good - and it served to illustrate how he has fine-tuned the magic realism of his present efforts. Paul read from a detective story - chapter 2, which serves to introduce characters - good detective genre work. Robert pitched four new book plot ideas and we had a great discussion deciding what he should start next! Ashley gave good comments on the work read. And I've taken Cody through high school graduation and into the military. Great fun and wonderful critiques. ”

“ So rewarding to see how everyone's writing improves week after week. Excellent pieces tonight with thoughtful and constructive critiques. John, as usual, offered such pithy, critical remarks. I wish I could have been in his English class! He is a born teacher and we are so fortunate to have him as a moderator. His passion for good writing is infectious. ”

“ I was a little disappointed (after my second meeting 6/13) that we didn't stay with the same critiquing group as the previous meeting. Of course that's not necessarily even possible, or always optimal. It's certainly beneficial to have new eyes reviewing one's work, but it's also beneficial to have a cohort that stays the same. I don't have any ideas as to how that could be balanced. I also felt that, in general, the critiques were excessively circular, and this was not due to any particular individual (or I wouldn't be writing it here). It was a group issue. Despite all of that, there were still many gains from the evening, and I thank all for their participation. ”
