The Thursday West Valley Writer's Critique Group

This group is designed to provide writers with immediate feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of their writing. Writers should bring 6-8 hard copies of their work to share with the group. The printed copies permit participants to make direct written comments, while the on site presence permits verbal comments. Stories, poems, essays, novel chapters or segments, memoirs, screenplays, stage plays, scripts, are all acceptable genre. Keep every genre alive. 4-8 pages/[masked] words works well for this kind of session.

Individuals are also welcome to observe if they're not ready to share their work for critique.

The first 30 minutes (6:15 PM) is a social, get to know your fellow authors period. Readings and critiques begin promptly at 6:45 PM. No food is available on the building site, however, a Sonic is directly across the street and several restaurants on Central Avenue. Snacks and beverages can be brought into the building. Parking is available on site.

The Gangplank provides Pizza for all Thursday night events.

This was my first time meeting with the group, and definitely not my last. There were so many different voices, styles, and comments; all of them interesting and insightful. I look forward to meeting everyone else in the group and hearing what they have to share.

Yikes, I don't have enough paper to print 20 copies!

Hello Chris: You don't need 20 copies. 20 represents the total number of people signed up to attend. We could never listen to 20 people in 2 hours. The group will be divided into sub-groups--break-out groups of 6-8 people. Usually, 6 or 7 copies are need for the breakout group.

I had a wonderful experience tonight at my first 'Meetup' with the West Valley Writer's Critique Group. I am grateful to have met and worked with those of you in my group. Your creative energies are impressive and your thoughtful advice sound. I look forward to reading more of your work soon and hope to meet and work with the rest of the members as well. Keep writing. Keep reading. Keep at it! May you all be inspired. Best of luck to you all in your creative endeavors. - Corey S. Merritt

It was nice to meet you Corey and I'm sure we'll benefit from reading your works. We'll see you at next weeks meeting and hope you will be able to join the monthly meeting on Saturday as well. You also might want to check the November Writer's Conference coming up in Avondale. I believe the last day for discount is Oct. 31st, but feel it will be worth going. Hope to see you there.
