The Thursday West Valley Writer's Critique Group

This group is designed to provide writers with immediate feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of their writing. Writers should bring 6-8 hard copies of their work to share with the group. The printed copies permit participants to make direct written comments, while the on site presence permits verbal comments. Stories, poems, essays, novel chapters or segments, non-fiction, fiction, how to topics, memoirs, screenplays, stage plays, scripts, are all acceptable genre. Keep every genre alive. 4-8 pages/[masked] words works well for this kind of session.

Individuals are also welcome to observe if they're not ready to share their work for critique.

The first 30 minutes (6:15 PM) is a social, get to know your fellow authors period. Readings and critiques begin promptly at 6:45 PM. During the sign-in period Moderators will divide the writers into 2-4 break-out groups of 4-6 authors.

No food is available on the building site, however, a Sonic is directly across the street and several restaurants are located on Central Avenue. Snacks and beverages can be brought into the building. Parking is available on site.

The Gangplank provides Pizza for all Thursday night events.

We had a great group of old timers and I got to catch up on their novels and stories. One of the percs of this group is the wonderful writers and their wonderful stories.

Perfect sized groups at 5 writers per table allowed wonderful exchanges in a relaxed atmosphere. Another evening were spent with growing writers.

Kasondra, I second Corey's comments. I am new to creative writing and credit this amazing collection of writers for helping me find my voice and giving me the confidence to write my first book. Come, share, you will feel welcome and encouraged.

I'm coming to observe. I'm excited but also nervous about sharing! :)

Kasondra...I am relatively new to the group so I can understand your reluctance regarding sharing your writing. Our writing is a window to our soul. Often intimate, at times daring, our words share a piece of us, and display for all to read, our deepest, darkest, secrets. To share such delicacies with "strangers" can be off-putting. We may be strange, true... (aren't all writers a bit?)...but I can share with you honestly, that there is no need to be nervous. Everyone in this group is very accommodating. Please, come and get to know us. Listen. Interact. Share your own wisdom as you critique ours. Let our stories woo you into sharing your own. I am certain... you will be rewarded for the effort. Welcome to the group Kasondra. I look forward to meeting you on Thursday. - Corey

Glad you can join us! You are welcome to observe, which is not uncommon with first time visitors. Even if you do not read, you may comment on pieces you hear if you choose to do so. If you bring material, please bring seven copies. I am confident you will find us to be a constructive and supportive group.
