WGG at Bent-Con 2013

(NOTE: 2013 conference start/end times haven't been announced yet. I'm using the times from last year's brochure).

Hey folks, the fourth annual Bent-Con convention is happening in 4 weeks, and I'm organizing our WGG meetup!

Never heard of Bent-Con? According to their website (http://bent-con.org/):

=============================
Bent-Con.org wrote:

Bent-Con is committed to recognizing, celebrating, encouraging and appreciating LGBTQ and our (UnGay) Allies contributions to pop-culture and geekdom. Specifically, comic-books, gaming, sci-fi, fantasy and horror mediums from artists, writers, creators, publishers, directors, actors and producers that create works targeted directly to LGBTQ audiences and the larger realm of mainstream and underground pop-culture as a whole.

BENT-CON hosts an annual convention that celebrates, provides a forum and community for these creative genres in its various forms to present to the public comic art, writing and multi-media not normally accessible or presented through existing commercial channels.

But it’s just easier to think of it like a Comic-Con, only Gayer!
=============================

This event seems tailor made for our SoCal gay geek community!

Last year, friends and I from GCN (GayChristian.net) attended Bent-Con 2012 and had a blast (I'll include some photos from our trip). I'm heading up the GCN group again this year, and approached Topher about planning a WGG gathering for Bent-Con. Topher asked me to organize the meetup.

The con schedule hasn't been posted yet, but I plan to be there all 3 days. I'm hoping to plan a WGG lunch or something, once we know the con schedule. Look here for more details on that here.

It's recommended that you get your conference badges online, to avoid registration lines and higher prices at the front door. (http://bent-con.org/registration/attendees/).

Bent-Con is the largest queer geek event of its kind*, attracting[masked] attendees last year. It's wonderful that such an event is so close. I'm hoping many WGG folks check it out.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Looking forward to seeing you there!!

Daniel :)

    So, since a lot of us will be there on Saturday, maybe we should pick a time and place to all meet up. Like at the bar, between two of he panels, maybe.

    I'm attending Saturday for a few panels, and socializing. Looking forward to meeting members of this group. Is there a meeting time, and location?

    Hey, I'll be there most of the weekend and am doing a "live game coding session" panel on Sunday that people can come check out :)

    I think I will be there one day this weekend, but I'm not sure if it will be Saturday or Sunday.

    I'm going to be there Saturday. I have friends coming down from SF, and we're all staying at the hotel so we can enjoy that night's party responsibly.

    I'll be there with a friend and his friend on Sat only and open to meeting.

    So parking is crazy expensive... $19/day. I'm coming in from Northridge, if anyone wants to carpool with me and share parking expenses. I'm planning on attending all three days.

      Also, there's a parking structure just north of the hotel that has somewhat reasonable prices:

    I'm going to be volunteering at the event on Friday and Saturday, so it would be cool to meet up with some people. I'll be available after 4 on both days. Let me know! :-)

  • Myles

    Sadly, I only have a couple of hours available to me to attend on Friday, so I'll be there right at opening until about 4:30-ish. Anyone else going Friday?

    October 30, 2013

    • Daniel C.

      Hey Myles, I plan to be there around opening time (doors open at 3pm, according to the schedule). Hope to see you there!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
