West Volusia Audubon's February Meeting:

Invasive and Native Fish Species in Volusia Blue Spring, Presented By:  Dr. Melissa Gibbs, Stetson University

Dr. Gibbs has been at Stetson University since 1998 & is currently an Associate Professor & Director of the Aquatic & Marine Biology Program. She is also on the board of The Friends of Blue Spring State Park & the Blue Spring Alliance. Her research focus is on the biology of an invasive armored catfish & also, spring fish ecology. She has studied the impacts of armored catfish on manatees & has also studied the reproduction, age & growth patterns & air-breathing behavior in catfish. Dr. Gibbs will give a presentation about these armored catfish as well as other invasive and & native fish which are found in Volusia County. Expect to learn a great deal & also get to know more about the armored catfish & manatee relationship & also to learn more about the amazing invasive & native residents found in the Spring. This is a free program & open to all who are interested & is wheelchair accessible.
