Wow It's Almost Spring

Thanks to February for its shortness the March meetup is almost here. While it's the Ides of March, Spring and St. Patrick's Day are almost here. So sad songs about failed relationships (just ask Caesar) might fit in. But hopeful songs are also appropriate. After all, the first internet domain name registration (1985), and the opening of My Fair Lady (1956) occurred on this date. So grab some tabs and bring 12 copies. The agenda for the meetup is:

7:30-9:00 - 1 1/2 hours of our usual selection of songs you think the group would like to play. Try to keep the songs to five chords or less; try to avoid C#dim7's and that ilk. Please bring at least 12 copies of your tab to hand out to the group. You can track the number of people coming on our website.

9:00-9:30ish - Showoff time - got a song you or others in the group have been practicing together and think you are ready for prime time, here's your chance.

9.30pm-till: Socializing - when showoff time is done those interested can adjourn to the Harry's a couple of stores away from Groove.

I mentioned that Slate.com is doing a fifty-years later series on The Beatles. Here's the latest installment: http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2013/03/20/blogging_the_beatles_for_chris_montez_and_tommy_roe_it_really_sucked_to.html

The bass. Please give me an honest assessment. I thought at times it was awful as I got lost and at others I think it worked.

We're ALL stumbling towards musical ecstasy. Sometimes we even achieve it together as a group -- which is a very cool thing.

Thanks for the feed-back. I'll bring it next time.

Good group last night - some new players and voices, Joe on bass, Ed on harmonica. I enjoyed playing most of the songs , some new to me. The after chat at Harrys always good

They had all the chairs up on tables and were ready to go when we left. Ditto on the good conversation.

I liked the bass, but there were sometimes in the very beginning where I felt it was overwhelming for an acoustic jam. (I'm the one who asked that you add some treble or lower it a touch.) Once it was more balanced, it really added to the overall mix. Too bad that you don't have an acoustic bass...that would really work with the group imho.

Thanks for being super-supportive and kind. It was fun making music with you. What a wonderful circle-of-friends atmosphere! And thanks for allowing me to sing an original song on occasion, for feedback - much appreciated. ...Enjoyed listening to your fine voices and interesting song selections.

R beginners welcome? If so I will try out this meetup.

Thanks John. I could probably swing it. I have good basic chord progression ( except for bar-ing a Bm!) + decent singing voice. But still very much a beginner. I think I will try next time you meet when I get some more tunes together to share. Thanks so much!

OK, Jennifer. I think most of us usually pull some chord sheets off the Internet for songs. If you know D, Em, G , Am, F and similar basic chords, you should be able to play along. With 12-15 guitars going, it's pretty easy to blend in and fake it if you need to. Give the group a try sometime. I think you'll like it.

I'm a former New Rochellian, co-founder of the Central CT Acoustic Musicians' Society, former NBC and CBS news guy in NYC, with friends and family still in NY. Looking forward to playing with your group...I've been a singer-songwriter since I was a kid and years ago actually made a living playing out. I'll bring charts of some cover tunes I think you'll have fun playing along with me. Music is my drug, so I'm sure it'll be a great night out! I'm not sure if your "showoff" time is OK for originals, but I've got a new song I'd kind of like to try out with you for your feedback if this kind of thing is appropriate. If not, no problem!

Tell me if there's any interest in my bringing my electric bass.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
