Science Book Club

  • Chris' Apartment

Our first selection is "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks." Feel free to bring treats (or request some- I'm willing to get anything cheaper than say, caviar) but no alcohol.  If you only read part of the book- come anyway.  I want this to be a low stress event, even if the book is serious.  If date, time, or book does not work please say so in comments. Thanks!

PS- I have a cat that will most likely hide in bedroom!

Apologies - I have been fighting a food borne illness since Tuesday. I was going to brave the outside world today and woke to big fat snowflakes. My MINI doesn't like them. Have fun gang

      Cool.

unfortunately Im going away that day but I didnt really love this book. I tried reading it after hearing the radio lab story about it. So not to encourage cheating you can listen to the episode on tumors and get a lot of background. I feel really insensitive because I was bored by the background on her life and kind of just wanted to see the science.

Hello strangers, put me down as a strong maybe.

PS: I'm familiar with the story of the HeLa cells (thanks, Radiolab!) but don't know if I can read the book in time. Hope that's OK!

I love the idea. I read the book for that book club and could not be bothered fighting my way back downtown after work.

We could work that into the walking at the dam, read a chapter or several before each walk and then discuss. Or meet up at a local coffee shop (NO STARBUCKS!)
