Who's up for a beautiful drive upstate, to do some whitewater tubing and eat awesome pancakes?
We'll gather in Mt. Vernon and car pool (easily Metro-North accessable via the Harlem Line), so just post in comments if you need a ride.
From there we'll take a scenic drive up to the Catskills, have brunch at local Phoenicia legend Sweet Sue's, and go tubing down the Esopus river. Tubing will cost between $20-50, depending on what you rent in addition to your tube, and which of two local places can accommodate us. Please bring a swimsuit and shoes that strap to your feet, if you are wearing regular flip-flops they will make you rent protective foot cover. Teva-type sandals or old cloth sneakers are probably best bets.
Sweet Sue's runs about $10 per entree, and the pancakes they're famous for are HUGE! They charged for syrup last time I was there, though, so I'm going to bring some with me.
For those interested in seeing the sites in town, there is a little downtown strip which hosts antique shops, a farmer's market, and other such things. The Empire State Railway Museum is also in town.
