FANTASY AUTHOR N K JEMISIN TO SPEAK

The Science Fiction Association of Bergen County's General
Meeting will again be hosted by Barnes & Noble, 1 Riverside Square,
The Shops at Rivedside, Hackensack, New Jersey 07601 (201) 488 -
8037 on Saturday, August 13, 2011.

Parking near the store is a matter of luck, so we recommend
that you allow extra time to find a space and/or target the more
distant areas of the parking lot from the outset.

PRE MEETING ACTIVITY:

Our Ice Nine discussion of Currently Cool books, movies,
televison, comics and more will be held before the General Meeting and
will start at 7:00 PM. This will be our only pre meeting event. Our
pre meeting animation videos will resume as usual in September.

N K JEMISIN

THE HUNDRED THOUSAND KINGDOMS, the first book in Nora
Jemisin's The Inheritance Trilogy, has been nominated for ten awards
including the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy and Locus awards. It is a
tale of love and betrayal, family and revenge, power and slavery on a
world where captive gods are used as weapons of mass destruction. It
is the story of a young woman, Yeine Darr, summoned from her home in
an unimportant backwater kingdom, who learns that she is a candidate
to succeed the dying emperor.

THE BROKEN KINGDOMS features a new cast of characters who
must deal with the changes in the world as a result of the events in
the first book. The series concludes in THE KINGDOMS OF THE GODS
which will be published later this year.

The books are a blend of elements from classic fantasy
writers like Zelazny and van Vogt and contemporary authors of urban
fantasy.

Ms Jemisin's short fiction has appeared in ABYSS & APEX,
BAEN'S UNIVERSE, CLARKESWORLD, POSTSCRIPTS, STRANGE HORIZONS and other
venues and has been nominated for the Hugo, Nebula and Locus awards.
