Jim and Peter, Thanks for organizing and leading. The park was great, and the local folklore just added to the experience. Luckily, we didnt wake up the sleeping giant :)

A poem for my hiking friends.

    Hiking is my religion,
    The trail is my pew,
    I hike a few times a month
to charge my batteries anew. Hiking is part of my evolution,
The trail is the natural way,
    I go a few times a month,
    to live a healthier day.

Hiking is part of my life,
The trails are there to explore.
    I go a few times a month
    to stretch my imagination more.

    Hiking seeks a oneness,
the trail is there to find.
    I go a few times a month,
to unify the body, the spirit and the mind.

So many good things can be said about the Giant...
I personally love the rugged topography, the views, the stone tower, but most of all the scrambling...! Thank you, Jim, for the informative details, and thank you, Peter, for taking us to this very picturesque Connecticut hike!

Not feeling well enough to go. I'm sorry I'll miss seeing everyone!

Hiked it yesterday. If we stay off Tower Trail, probably won't need spikes. I'm bringing them just in case. Glenwood Diner is a great place to eat. About 5 minutes south on Rt. 10. (Whitney Ave.)

The suggestion box is open for good local watering hole/ eateries by the Sleeping Giant (no tie required.lol). For some Giant appetites and thirst, after the hike;-)) Trying to avoid college only bars. Also. Please let me know if you may or may not be joining the group for libations post-hike-um?

Thanks Ralph! It looks like a nice winery. Not sure if our attire after the hike will be proper;-). What do you think?

      March 11, 2013

    • Ralph

No problem. Things are very casual. The tasting room is huge and the views are great. It is buy their beverage, wine, water or whatever and BYO food/snacks. People go from chips to full dinners.

Anyone coming from the city? Brooklyn or Manhattan? Would love to carpool. Can chip in for gas, tolls, coffee.

    March 11, 2013

  • Ralph

I'd be up for taking the fire road to the top. I'd be surprised if all 48 people are suited for the difficult trail. Some folks have lost their life on it.

    March 11, 2013

  • Joe B.

As always, I have space for anyone who wants to carpool from Rye/ Greenwich area or train station.
