Join us for a strenuous Harriman through-hike along the Long path, starting on the southeastern boundary of Harriman State Park at the County Rd 98 / 75 intersection parking area and ending at the Turkey Hill parking lot. We will plan to meet at the Turkey Hill parking area, do a car shuttle to the trail head starting point, and then hike along the AT through Harriman. Rocky trails, beautiful scenic vistas and several long, sustained hill climbs along the way.

Difficulty: Strenuous. Several long sustained hill climbs along rocky terrain. This is a qualifying hike -- you must successfully complete a qualifying strenuous hike to be able to participate in future strenuous-rated hike outings.

Distance: 14 - 16 miles

Hi - I am new to the group - would like to try and make it to this hike. I saw the destination above - but when I type it in my navigation it reads "can't find". Is there a nearby landmark that might help? Thanks

    • Karen

Hi Trevor, I see you're in Greenwich. Would you like to ride with me?

    Peter,
Coming from PIP and heading north, when you leave the PIP and go around the circle towards Rte. 6, how far up is the "Turkey Hill Parking"? and is it on the right or left? I am going to try to find it this weekend.

    September 30, 2013

    • Peter

Lynn, here's a Google Map directions like that gets you from the traffic circle to the Turkey Hill parking area: https://maps.google.co...

Peter, thanks, I went to Rockland yesterday and found the Long Path easily. See you at the hike.

This sounds amazing but it may be a bit too ambitious for me. It would be great if there was a "companion" hike that would happen simultaneously that wasn't quite as strenuous. What do you think about organizing something like that? I bet there are many partners/girlfriends/husbands etc. who would like to join their significant others but can't due to the difficulty factor. Thoughts?

      How steep is the acramble

      August 25, 2013

    • Peter

Not much scrambling. Make certain, however, that you are sufficiently prepared for a 15 mile hike.
