Fun, moderate 5 mile morning hike. We will hike most of the perimeter of Butler Sanctuary, about 2.5-3 hours total.
Plan to meet up at the Butler parking lot by 9:00am and we will commence hiking promptly at 9:15am. Please plan to bring something delicious to share, and we'll have a quick picnic at the hike's conclusion at high noon.
About Butler: Many rolling hills with a wide selection of well-maintained trails. Many interesting rock outcroppings. Multitude of deer, squirrels, chipmunks and various raptor species. An occasional fox sighting as well.
Since it is fall season we will enjoy the foliage. Also hawk season is in effect. Possible sightings of the bald eagle. Bring binoculars!!!

Best navigation bet: From the north: Take 684 to Rte 172 west. Go one-half mile, make a left turn onto Chestnut Ridge Road and follow road to the Lake Bridge Road junction. Turn right on Lake Bridge Road and follow to end. From the south: Take 684 to Rte 22 north. Make a left turn onto Chestnut Ridge Road and follow road to the Lake Bridge Road junction. on Lake Bridge Road and follow to end.
Probable hike route: Parking Lot -> Red -> Yellow (L) -> Red (R) -> Orange (L) -> White (R) -> Red (L) -> Blue (R) -> Red (R) -> Parking Lot
Weather: Rain cancels.
Equipment: Sturdy hiking shoes. Plenty of water. Binoculars. Hiking poles if needed. Insect repellent.
