CT: Appalachian Trail hike to Bull's Bridge

  • January 12, 2014 · 10:00 AM

***** Note that this hike has been rescheduled --- again --- from its original posted date *****

Join us for a moderate there-and-back-again hike along the ragin' Housatonic River via the Appalachian Trail in western CT. Beautiful views of the Housatonic River valley, and a great mid-river viewpoint at Bull's Bridge. Rocky trails and one long sustained hill climb each way.

Difficulty: Moderate.

Distance: 6.5 miles

Estimated Time: 4 hours

Google Map link to AT trailhead parking area: https://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=41.64459,-73.51914&hl=en&sll=41.644677,-73.518695&sspn=0.001792,0.004128&t=h&mra=mift&mrsp=1&sz=19&z=19

The parking lot area fills up fast, so please try to arrange carpooling if possible. Early arrivals should try to park as far back in the grass as possible, as the gravel lot does not hold very many cars. Here's a Google Map view of the parking area: https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=41.644754,-73.519199&spn=0.000804,0.001206&t=h&z=20&layer=c&cbll=41.644754,-73.519199&panoid=N5FfbSnj8p2aHjdi1hv0iA&cbp=12,157.6,,0,11.13

I'm driving from Long Island . Would be happy to carpool if anyone needs a ride. My number is [masked]-7618.

Peter, do you have an exact address. I don't think I can put in coordinates on my Gps. Sorry, old school!

    January 11, 2014

    • Sarah

The address I gave previously is rubbish, my navigation had no idea what google maps is talking about. It was willing to accept 59 Rout 55, Sherman, CT, 06784; the actual meeting spot is about thirty seconds west of this address.

Hi, Amy. I'd like a ride If you are still willing to carpool. if so, can you pick me up at the SW corner of East Birch Street and Gramatan Avenue around 815am? Its in the Fleetwood section of Mount Vernon. Let me know.

      January 11, 2014

Is there anyone that can pick me up at the White Plains Train Station around 830am? If not, would Mount Kisco or Katonah Station be better around 850am? Let me know. Thanks.

I can give a ride to anyone (3 anyones, in fact) who can either get to the Harrison station (a map of the train lines for reference: http://www.mta.info/mnr/html/mnrmap.htm) or are in the area.

Jennie is driving up with me from Stamford and I could fit 2 more in my Honda Accord. Anyone from Stamford or east want a ride? If so, let me know and I'll either come up with a meeting place here or pick you up. I'll confirm logistics once I know if I have others and where they live. Likely we'll want to be on the road by 8:30 latest and maybe a bit earlier to get there by no later than 9:45.

Rumana, this hike is in CT, so it won't be listed on any of the NY/NJ trailmaps. Here's a link to a topo map w/ the route listed: http://www.ctxguide.c...

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
