Westchester Sail and Power Squadron ("WSPS") is part of the United States Power Squadron ("USPS"), the world's largest private, non-profit boating organization. Westchester was awarded its Charter in February, 1937. The majority of our members are drawn from Central and Southern Westchester County. The boating activities of our members take place primarily in the Long Island Sound and the Hudson River.
The Westchester Sail and Power Squadron (like all of the squadrons that comprise USPS) is made up of people who are interested in taking classes and seminars to learn about safe boating and who enjoy power boating and/or sailing.
If you are interested in learning about safe boating, we are the right group for you. We have multiple classes and we also have group activities throughout the year.
We also have Thursday night sail which is a lot of fun. We have several boats which go out on Thursday nights for sail from different marinas in Westchester.
If you would like to take part in our Thursday sail, you should:
1. Join WSPS MeetUp Group and become a member of the United States Power Squadrons. 1st year membership is $97 per individual and $133 for the entire family.
2. Send an email to John at firstname.lastname@example.org at least 3 days before the sail (Monday) so John can assign you to a boat. If you can't get that information to John by Monday, he will try to accommodate you but may just ask you to be on the list for the following week.
3. The email you send to John must provide a phone number where you can be reached.
4. Your friends will be accommodated only if there is enough room on a boat. We will put a max of five people on a boat and that will include one experienced sailor to assist the captain. So basically we will assign four passengers, one experienced member and the captain which makes 6 in total.
