New York Walk for Farm Animals

The Walk for Farm Animals raises vital funds for Farm Sanctuary’s lifesaving work and brings together thousands of people to change hearts and minds about farm animals.

The walk in NYC will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 with a check-in time of 9:30. Gene Baur, President and Co-Found of Farm Sanctuary will be there, as well Jane Velez-Mitchell as a special guest.

You can walk individually or as a team with friends. In fact, Carlo and I are walking as Team Hug a Vegan, and would love to have others join us!

There's also a virtual walk on 11/3 called "Sleep-In for Animals."

I wasn't able to find the others since this would have been my first time joing a meet-up, wasn't sure who I was looking for!
But the event and the walk were really nice, it was great to
meet and listen to other compassionate people.
Gene is a terrific speaker and made a very strong impression
on my 17 year old son!
I do hope to meet you all soon at other event!

I have to attend a memorial service this weekend, so I won't be able to attend the walk. But I'll definitely be there in spirit!

Hi Carmella I’m compelled to respond for one reason- the animals, who are more important than any organization. When animal advocacy groups have been co-opted by the animal using industry, it’s important for the truth to be presented so people can make their own decision who to support or not support. In 2005 Farm Sanctuary co-founder Gene Baur participated in the development of Whole Foods' "Animal Compassionate Standards" for using and killing animals. Important information to be considered by anyone who truly professes to be vegan. Please do not censor this post Carmella. It’s not preventing anyone from attending who may choose to nor saying they shouldn't go. People should be allowed to make an intelligent choice based on information they may not have been aware of. Information the meat and dairy industries prefer people not know. I encourage all who are truly concerned for animals' lives to become informed about what is going on. kindly Jeff

I'm not going to censor you. That's not my thing. I'm just saying that this thread is not the appropriate venue to pontificate. We do have a discussion board to share such information.

It is hard for me to put my support behind Farm Sanctuary as they are more of an animal welfare organization these days as opposed to animal rights. I can't support any so called animal friendly organizations such as Farm Sanctuary, HSUS and others when they promote "Happy Meat".
If this is as disappointing and upsetting to you as it is me and you would like to learn more to truly help the animal rights movement, you can learn more at

I appreciate your feedback, and acknowledge your reasons in not attending the event. I respectfully may not agree, but to each his/her own. I just ask that you please do not use this channel as a way to dissuade those who support organizations like Farm Sanctuary, whom I feel has done a lot for animal welfare and rights.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
