NYC Foodie Announces Vegan Cooking Competition
Veggie Conquest: First challenge is Aug. 22 in Chelsea
New York (July 27, 2009) — Attention foodies: There’s a new cooking competition in town. Veggie Conquest (VeggieConquest.com), New York’s vegan cooking challenge, is now enrolling contestants, tasters and judges for monthly events. The first challenge takes place on Saturday, Aug. 22, in Chelsea, Manhattan. Confirmed judges include blogger and fashion guru Joshua Katcher (TheDiscerningBrute.com); food blogger and author Kathy Patalsky (LunchBoxBunch.com); and food stylist and author Brian Preston-Campbell (Preston-Campbell.com).
Here’s how it works: Contestants prepare a vegan dish at home, based on a secret ingredient and rules provided by Veggie Conquest. At the monthly challenge, a panel of judges and tasters decide who wins the prize for the top dish — it’s that simple.
Not a vegan? Don’t worry — Veggie Conquest will provide all the information you need to cook or judge a vegan dish.
“Lots of vegetarians love shows like Iron Chef and Top Chef, and want to put their own skills to the test in a vegan cooking competition. Other people just like to eat great food,” says founder and longtime vegan Jessica Mahady. “Veggie Conquest will give New Yorkers that chance.”
Veggie Conquest is also seeking food-industry professionals to teach vegan cooking classes between challenges.
Tickets are available on the Veggie Conquest website — from free to $15. So grab your aprons and your appetites, and join New York’s newest vegan community.
