Cob Oven & Rocket Stove building workshop

Cob, also known as adobe, is a traditional and versatile building material made from clay, sand and straw. With it, humans can easily and intuitively build houses, stoves, ovens and more. In this FULL DAY WORKSHOP we'll design and build a permanent, highly efficient wood fired outdoor baking oven at Taproot Commons Farm in Cummington, using clay from on site and other local materials.

We'll mix cob, build the foundation and oven.

We will ALSO learn how to build a rocket stove (for stove top use, not baking), which will affix to the oven.

Lastly, (you can leave before this), we'll slaughter and butcher a chicken, learning how to use all parts for food.

Participants will be comfortable to make simple cob structures on their own by the end of the day. Bring enthusiasm, work clothes, WATER, and as many empty beer bottles as you can. Pot-luck lunch to share!

$30-$70 sliding scale for the day.

Here is a link to a pdf on rocket mass stoves, Sandra I remember you had asked about them. I found it very informative, and easy to understand. I hope you find it useful.

As in, you want to BYOC to butcher and then take home? Sure, sounds good... just keep it in a comfy crate till the end of the day.

Sooo.... Hey everyone. Not sure who to ask, but could this potentially be a "bring your own chicken" type of thing?
