I'm interested in sustainable living and about EMFs, i.e. cellphone radiation, dirty electricity, frequencies such as HF, electrosmog, etc. I'd like to research this topic utilizing book study (library loans/see Amazon for books such as Zapped, Dirty Electricity, etc.). I haven't read these, yet. If you are interested, please let me know.

Thanks Kirstin. I would love to kept in the loop regarding this topic. If there is something that I can have changed so that I'll be safer I would so appreciate knowing! In Newton before I moved out here 6 years ago I fought to have the analog (wheel turning) device kept on my house. eventually they won out. Thanks again! Rebecca

Sorry Leonore, My life just got a lot busier! I may need to bow out of any meetings. I really would like to know more about the smart connections on our houses and what our rights are in regard to that! Do you know?
    Thanks,
    Rebecca

Hi Rebecca: I don't know for certain about the smart connections on your house in the Amherst area. I'm looking into the meters in Holyoke right now. There is a Sage Report on Smart Meters I just pulled up, and I was measuring the frequencies off the house meter, and examining the topic just at the moment. I'm going to see what happens from there, but I think at the moment I'm on a learning curve. I looked online and there where pictures of smart meters and there was also information about digitized meters having a "switching" or "switch-mode" problem. The latter I don't quite understand.

    • Kirstin

By the way, whether you have a smart meter or not, your meter may still be transmitting frequencies. The question to clarify is what are the frequencies, when is this happening (how often, how long), first, and then the SAGE report (earlier) and the Bioinitiative Report 2012 kind of list the effects at different frequencies on a table. I measured frequencies that were high coming from my Holyoke meter, but it is not a "smart" meter. When I called the Holyoke utility person he said he would look into it and that he could move the meter to city property, but he wouldn't "change" the meter. That doesn't seem to improve the situation at all, because it is just transmitting all over the front lawn and front of the house, instead of into side and kitchen area and driveway. I want to be very clear on what is occurring so that I can make a request for something that is safer, rather than accidentally requesting something useless, like just moving the meter slightly.

3/31 afternoon works for me as well as 4/6 (at this point) though the former is better. Glad you all had so much to share. I'm a total newbie. If you'd like to direct me toward something to research I'll try.

Hi again, I just wanted to mention that in the summary section there is also a definition page for some of the terms (RF, EMF, and something else) that is helpful. I think the index also lists an additional glossary.

Hi Rebecca, I don't know when we are going to get together again to study this topic, but I am going through my materials and learning a lot. I found a site that looked like it might be useful for you: powerwatch.org seemed good. I was reading some of the information on substations myself.

Oh, Saturday 3/31/12 at what time? I'm going to tentatively suggest at 1:30 PM, bringing an (small?) appetite to the Dirty Truth. Please confirm and take a look at the place online--it is on the La Veracruzana block: www.dirtytruthbeerhall.com

    March 27, 2013

  • Kirstin

I'm going to suggest meeting at the Dirty Truth in Northampton. This would necessitate buying some drinks and/or food, but it is a nice place/bar: the fries, pretzels are fantastic--I usually drink water but it is a bar. If someone has a better idea, let me know! Otherwise, I'm posting it as the Dirty Truth (next to La Veracruzana).

I just finished my leukemia reading and found it very motivating to advocate for change. I had to look into some definitions, and still have more. Try to keep track of terms to figure out so we can figure it out together. I think, however, we could benefit from having an electrician or someone knowledgeable about the field: see if you can find anyone!

Hello all! Kirsten, you may soon want to consider giving a presentation at one of the regular Health practitioner meet-ups in N-hampton/ With your measuring device and the report you are printing out. This is my house mate's idea, you met her.

My landlord's name is Llan Starkweather. The book is self published. You may call LLan at[masked] and ask about the book. EMF s are not the topic of the whole book. Its just a mention.
The report Kirsten purchased is probably the best source of info for the cell and wifi radiation. Best regards, Leonore

Hi Leonore, I was just thinking about the 3/31 date and wondering whether that would work for you, since it seems okay with rebecca and maz.

      March 21, 2013

    • LEONORE A.

Hello Kirstin, yes the 31st is fine, I had indicated that. If people car pool, my place in Leverett is available. Here is very little wifi and cell tower exposure. Leonore

  • Kirstin

Seems 3/31 is good for everyone (have to check with Jay). How about a location? We might want to sit quite some time, but I'm uncertain about places in Amherst and Northampton . Library? Coffee Shop that doesn't mind customers hanging out for an hour or three? Afternoon seems better for me, by the way.

    March 21, 2013

  • maz

    Thanks Kirstin,
I work weekday evenings so I am not available to meet at those times.
And as I was reading your thoughts on where to meet to avoid cell towers and the like, we all get a dose of emf or just electric when riding in our cars from the alternators which are only a couple of feet away. For some reason that does not bother my body--that I have noticed, in the way that the power lines and appliances do. Have not researched differences in AC and DC; that may shed light.

    Who is the landlord/author?

My focus would be broad to bring attention to the symptoms coinciding with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia and the poor and disabled who are housed under the wires. Weave all that in with "healthcare."

Hi Rebacca, 3/31 is still open for me if anyone else is willing and able:)
    Maz

    • Kirstin

Hi Maz: 3/31 seems like a fine date for most everyone, though I have to give Jay a call to check. I think you are right about not finding a location without wifi, but I'm still wondering what where to meet. I agree on the focus with you. I looked briefly at the landlord's book and believe he referred to books by Robert Beck. I almost think it might be better, as Leonore suggested, to go to a primary source for studies. Robert Beck is good--I did read his book Cross Currents and Samuel Milham's Dirty Electricity so I wouldn't do those.

    FARM/ANIMAL/REPRODUCTIVE/HUMAN DETAILS:

Bee studies: EMFs killing/crazing bees: Bees attack queen, leave queen, commit hive suicide. Effect on other insects/animals/plants?

Cow studies: Cows give less milk when electricity poorly wired.

Reproduction: Animals & humans show reproductive problems: miscarriages common. Sperm negatively affected, too: disabled, can't swim.

Human body a "salty, juicy antenna" and EMFs cause cancer cells to permanently increase speed of growth and increasing mutations. WHO report shows that cancer increasing in USA at alarming rates in areas related to EMFs (brain, thyroid, etc.).

Children, embryo, elderly particularly at risk due to body composition. Women also more sensitive than men: perhaps more finely tuned :-)

Attn./Memory/Behavior/Neurological: all impacted negatively, leading to concerns about future generations.

Cell phones, routers, mobile phones: testing with radmeter indicated high levels (nothing is ever recalled).

EMF READINGS--Sources and information from first mting. Best current source on EMFs: www.bioinitiative.org 2013 (includes summaries and 2012 release and 2007 release of review of over 1800 international studies on EMFs)
Identifying cell towers/antennas in your area: www.antennasearch.com
Additional sources exist online. I have downloaded several radio interviews, one on the Bioinitiative, from: http://www.yourownhealthandfitness.org/?page_id=753

I am going to be focusing on the leukemia section, called conclusive, as I'm concerned about the use of wireless in schools and effects of cell towers/antenna parks. I also have will look at additional sources. There are several different sections of the report if you would like to focus on reading a particular sections.

    March 18, 2013

  • Kirstin

Hi Maz--the meeting was great! Leonore's landlord coincidentally has written books on the subject. We all shared some interesting details and agreed the science is clear EMFs being dangerous. Has anyone else looked at antennasearch.com? I very much enjoyed meeting Leonore, and she pointed out that networking is very important for learning and moving forward.

Leonroe also said she is also available weekday evenings except for Tuesdays and Thursdays--although the latter might be possible.
Looking at the dates you gave, I found the following openings in my calendar:
    3/30 available after 11:15 AM
    3/31 available after 12 noon
    4/6 no appt.s yet
    4/7 Don't know if available yet--likely not

I'm trying to think of a location that is suitable and (hopefully) without wifi or nearby antennas/cell towers. The latter might be hard to swing unless we head to the woods and meet in a tent. Because I don't mind using my car, I'm open to suggestions. Kirstin

    • LEONORE A.

Kirsten - thank you again, especially for paying forward the annual cost to join Meet-up, and for having subscribed to the Radio on-line so we can re-listen to the health talks. I would like to meet again on 3/31 after noon. I like to suggest that we give each other pointers on what we can study / bring to the next meeting so it becomes truly a sharing experience. For example: books titles, authors, speakers, scrienists, the report you and I know about. Let us be true information disseminators (spelling?). If 3/31 does not work keep 4/6 open. Cheers Leonore

      March 18, 2013

  • LEONORE A.

The meeting was beyond anything I could have expected.
Thank youo Kirstin for beginning this group! You have done already some homework, you inspire others and you have in mind our healt, long term. I hope this group attracts others and that a movement begins that educates fast everybody about EMF and ALL frequencies, both harmful AND beneficial. Frequencies and energy are inseperable and of prime concern for both our evolution - or de-volution. Attunement with Nature and Cosmos is key. Being ignorant about plain dangerous energy fields or mis-used frequencies means never knowing what Zaps energy = health = vitality now and for generations to be.

    Hello all,
Hope the meeting was productive if you did in fact meet.
Right now some times that I have free would be in the late mornings on 3/30, 3/31, 4/6, 4/7, all Sat and Sun. And possibly Monday or Tuesday April 8 and 9 late mornings or afternoons for those two days.

I can bring my research and meet this upcoming Sunday (17) or the following Sunday (24), preferably after lunch. Saturday the 23rd is also possible for me, and I would be availabe at or after 3:30.
By the way, I found this link yesterday: Bioiniative Report 2013. I am not sure if I spelled it correctly. If you haven't found anything to read, it has plenty.

    Hello all,
Yes, my residence in Leverett is available. I am flexible reg times, lets do it soon, Friday PM or eve next week? Not on eves Mo - Thu.
Will add relevant research info @ meeting reg (cell) phone pollution. Let me hear when you can meet.

    March 14, 2013

  • Kirstin

Okay, I've done a bit of research (Dirty Electricity and Cross Currents), so I would be fine meeting with other people about how all this meshes with the research others have done. It seems there is a lot to read and I haven't found that much current as yet that speaks about impacts on children that have clearly defined risks. That is a major concern to me. It seems, though, that it might not be that great to be living smack dab in electrical "pollution," and that much of the research indicates risk. I'm also interested in the effects of my using a computer/internet and how to reduce that risk. Anyway, I'd be glad to meet with others that have been doing some reading as well? I believe it was Leonore that suggested her home in Leverett, and I'm wondering if that is still an option or if she'd rather meet in a public space?

    Hello folks,
Kirstin-thank you for your response! I am sorry this is delayed. I wrote a note a few months ago in which I said that I had an article that was very helpful to me in detailing my symptoms of emf exposure (symptoms were not exactly the same each time I was exposed). I never thought emf could disturb circadian rhythms but that is just what this study found and that was happening to me only I had not put it together. http://www.aehf.com/articles/em_sensitive.html

Hope this is helpful to someone. It really was for me. Maz

I am interested in this topic! although I do not have time right now to be in a group because I have just moved and have a lot of work to do on the house---I am overwhelmed!!

But....I have done research on EMF because I am sensitive to them. What helps is my gauss meter which enables me to know if there are fields around or emitting from appliances in the home and else where like a cell phone which I do not own because it effects my central nervous system (my head!). I bought my meter at www.lessemf.com. It is the Trifield meter which measures microwave/radio, electric, and two different measures for magnetic. I wanted this meter for about 10 years and it cost (five years ago) $135. Well worth the money. There was a great research article I found online (that I cannot find at this time) that was clear in describing symptoms. It really helped in defining what I was experiencing. I will keep looking for that article to share it with you.

    • Kirstin

Hi Mauzi: I think I have the same problem. I purchased a radmeter and found out my cellphone was hitting the top of the chart, or most dangerous section: the third red bar---whatever that means. The five or more other cell phones I checked never even came close, moving at most up to the first yellow bar. Luckily, I never used it much. I wonder if you are outfitting your home to be free of EMFs, etc., and if so how. It seems like a task.

I'd like to suggest some books for reading, which may be available through the library or may perhaps be suggested for purchase through the library. I know it may be some time before we can meet. So, here goes:

Dirty Electricity: Electrification and the Diseases of Civilization (by Samuel Milham, MD MPH epidemiologist, c. 2010)
Healing is Voltage: Handbook (2nd ed. is updated, c. 2010, by Dr. Tennant, eye doctor)
Healing is Voltage: Healing Eye Diseases (previous author, c. 2011)
The Body Electric, and follow up book Cross Currents (by Dr. Robert Beck, pioneer in field, the first book publishes in 1990s, the second one perhaps in 1998)
Magnetism and Its Effects on the Living System--(c. ?, authors Davis and Rawls??)
Electromagnetic Fields-A Consumer's Guide to the Issues and How to Protect ... (by Blake Levitt, c. 1998, she also did a radio interview recently on smart meters, more later)
    Toxic Electricity (c. 2012, by ?)
For now, that's it. I'm of writing room today!
