This group is an opportunity for support and discussion for people on the autism spectrum. This group is a "safe space" for adults in our community and is not intended as a parenting group; family members are encouraged to get in touch with us for relevant resources for their needs.
Adults 18+ who identify with autism, Asperger's, or other murky labels. For a number of reasons, including the difficulty of getting a diagnosis as an adult, a formal clinical diagnosis is not required.
Our monthly Saturday support group meets the third Saturday each month from 2:00 to 4:00pm. We meet in the lounge room, through first door to your right as you enter.
Like all of our programs, our support groups are both by and for adults with Asperger's Syndrome and high-functioning autism. We take this time every month to meet and learn from others like ourselves.
In terms of our format, our support groups typically start with introductions and check-ins, where we each take a few minutes to talk about ourselves, how our month has been going, and introduce any questions or topics for the group to discuss. The rest of our session is dedicated to a facilitated discussion on topics around the autism spectrum.
Our Saturday group tends to draw between six and ten people. Most of us do not subscribe to Meetup.com and thus groups will be larger than they appear on-site. RSVPs are always appreciated but are by no means necessary.
We like to start roughly on-time so being a few minutes early is always appreciated.
