C/3.1 (5509')/70 Devils Slide Trail/Half Moon Bay Tour

Meet John F. Deven ([masked], [masked]) at 8:00 AM at the parking lot behind the Pioneer Saloon, 2925 Woodside Rd, Woodside, CA for an 8:15 AM departure. Look for a Maroon Scion xB. Lets take a scenic tour of the Devils Slide Trail and Half Moon Bay.

This is a social paced route that will tour the beautiful ocean views at the Devils Slide Trail. The approach to Pacifica will go north along the scenic Sawyer Camp and San Andreas Trails to Skyline to Sharp Park Blvd. We will have ample time to take photos at Devils Slide then tour the Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail system (avoiding Hwy 1 as much as possible). Lunch will be at the Garden Deli Cafe in Half Moon Bay. The hard work begins with the return to Woodside. There will be climbs up Higgins to Purissima to Verde to Lobitos to Tunitas and down Kings Mountain.

Thanks for planning, pre-riding, and leading such a long and complicated route JFD! It was a delight to experience the fresh ocean air and cool fog in contrast with our normal dry heat in the valley, and the length and elev gain made this a great workout too. The wonderful new asphalt and car-free Devil's Slide scenic zone was certainly the highlight of the bike experience today, worth taking the family back to see it another time. Personally I love ocean-side biking for chances to see groups of pelicans flying nearby right at my eye-level, and it happened for me again today. Great overall ride experience!

FYI, I'm thinking a conservative estimate would be a total elapsed ride time just shy of 8 hours. Leave at 8:15, probably back at Woodside at 4:15pm. We might be back sooner.

Going up Tunitas after 57 miles in the saddle? You are a sadist! I may try to attend this ride, but won't know my availability until Saturday.

That's understandable. I can certainly see how there would be more shoulder on the southbound side of highway 1 that on the northbound side.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
