Stalking the rare, elusive and appallingly savage Baikal teal

There's a probably storm-tossed Baikal teal hanging out in an irrigation ditch on Buckhouse Lane near Blue Mountain. It's the first recorded in MT and one of only a few in the continental US. I saw it Thursday morning from a long way off. People are seeing it off and on all day, but mostly in the morning between 6:00 and 6:30. I've made the event all day for the next week. There will probably be somebody there who knows what's up with the bird any time you go. Of course, it could fly off or get eaten at any time. The area all around there is private property, so please stay on the road.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
