Hike Serpent's Trail before the April Potluck (Part Deux)

Part Deux - it sounds like a bad Charlie Sheen movie (but I digress).

Hike Serpent's Trail prior to the April Potluck.  Serpent's trail is 3.5 miles long and is a beautiful and moderately steep trail.  If you are beginning a hiking conditioning program or just want to get a little exercise this is a great option.  We will begin at the lower trailhead and hike approximately 1.75 miles to the upper trailhead which is the turnaround point.  This normally takes me one hour and twenty minutes at a moderate pace.  If you hike at a more conversational pace or want to stop to enjoy the views it may take longer.

Where:  Serpent's Trail is located 0.4 miles from the East Entrance to the Colorado National Monument.  Parking is available either at the Devil's Kitchen Picnic Area (where we will have the Potluck) or at the Devil's Kitchen Trailhead.  Take the first right turn after entering the monument for the Picnic Area, the trailhead parking lot is about 20 meters further on the left.  If the Ranger Station at the east entrance is manned you will need to either have a National Parks Card, a Colorado Monument Card, or pay $10.00 per vehicle to enter the Monument.

When:  We will start the hike at 5:30.  However if you arrive late or don't wish to hike the entire trail feel free to hit the trail at a later time.

Additional Information:  Please wear trail shoes or boots (running shoes are okay as well).  If the temperature is hot you should have water on the trail and a windshell jacket may be needed.

Sorry, I'm going to bail. Having worked almost nonstop for the past week, my motivation to do this and a meeting tonight is very low with the cold and rain. Very happy about the rain, though!

If the rappeling gets rained out everyone is welcome to hike the trail - hike at your own speed - run, walk or crawl. The trail takes a little over an hour at a fast pace and a little under two hours if you want a leisurely hike.

I have a meeting at 7 pm, so I'll probably end up turning around a little early so I can grab something to eat on my way to the meeting.
