HIKE Monument Canyon
UP or dowN with a car shuttle
(or your own options)
Those who want a normal evening's exercise will drive to the top of Monument Canyon and hike down the 6 miles from Rim Rock Drive trailhead to the trailhead off CO Hwy 340/ Broadway.
Wanting more exercise than that? Then you can opt to walk the 6 miles UP HILL to Rim Rock Drive trailhead.
We will swap cars at the meeting place so that, if I am starting at the bottom and hiking up, someone who plans to hike down will take my car UP and I will take theirs to the lower end point. This way each person ends their hike being able to drive their own car to home, Hot Tomato or where ever.
This hike is open to all-comers. If you want to do some variation other than the 2 I have presented, you are welcome to do that, such as take a short walk to the Coke Ovens or hike from the bottom to Independence Rock then back down, etc.
Each person will be encouraged to 'go your own pace' and do not feel obligated or pressured to hike faster or slower than you choose.
Meet at 6 PM at the parking lot right along CO Hwy 340 where Rim Rock Drive takes off.
Plan to be out as long as 6 miles, one way or the other takes you.
- sturdy running-type shoes or light hiking boots
- dress for variable weather but be prepared for lots of sun (broad hat, long sleeves/legs?)
- trekking poles (optional, if you like them)
- snacks (should always be in your pack)
- headlamp (should always be in your pack, with spare batteries)
Its another of those hikes in CO Natl Monument where they say 2-footed hikers Yes, domesticated 4-footed hikers, No.
We will be after normal fee collection hours for the Monument so I think it will be Free.
In your RSVP please state your preference for hiking from the top down or bottom up?
