Road bike ride from "Hot Tomato" Pizza then return to eat

Let's go ride our Road bikes ~~~~

I am thinking it would be fun to ride out from the " Hot Tomato" and do some of the back roads behind Fruita. We will try to time it so we can have a drink and some pizza when we get back. The Tomato closes at 9 PM and it is dark by then so you know we'll be back no later than say, 8:30.

I would like everyone to be comfortable riding so we will set the pace so everyone can enjoy themselves. This is a 37 mile ride according to the map but we will cut it to about 18 miles (see maps below and then go to Fruita Farms Alphabet Ride). If you have a mirror please bring it.

Bring:

  • Obviously your bike
  • HELMET REQUIRED on WSA rides
  • Spare tube and repair stuff (if you have it)
  • Clear, yellow or other glasses for bugs as much as for sun. $8-18 safety glasses at places like Home Depot are great for biking.
  • Water in bottles or hydration pack
  • Quick energy snacks
  • Dry shirt in the car for after the ride
  • A few $$$ in case we decide to stop or go out after

We may repeat this event every Wednesday (or another night) and see if we can get some interest in wed night rides on some of the different rides in the valley.

If we get enough interest we can expand it to other areas not so close on the weekends.

For all those inquiring minds, we rode 12+ miles tonight and we had an average speed of 10.5 miles an hour.

Thank-You everyone for coming out on what seemed to be a very hot day, but turned out to be a great day. Sorry I forgot my camera but I had a few helper tonight. Thanks to all that took photos and all that pretended to be having a great time riding. Elizabeth I think you had best photo this week and Barbara and Michael had it last week. I don't think you could ask for a better group to go on a ride with (and I am not saying that because somebody bought me a beer (Laney)).

It was 100 degrees when I headed over to the meeting place for the ride but I could not tell it was that hot while riding. Nice Fruita farm roads route got us back to the Hot Tom in time for good food and cheer with the whole group.

This ride was quite a work-out for me. It pointed to some bike adjustments I might make.

Thanks for the gear instruction and help with the old pedal, Mike. Thanks to Jim for setting this up. I'll keep working on learning those gears! Fun to see everyone and the food was really good.

Am fairly new to biking (been a number of years) Most I have done thus far is around 10 miles. A little nervous with 18. However, I will certainly get out there and try. Am a strong hiker, so maybe this won't be as big a deal as I am thinking...

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
