What does it take! Let's go biking on Road Bikes

Let's go ride our Road bikes ~~~~

I am thinking it would be fun to ride out to the end of the riverside bike path out west to the parkway and cut u into the Redlands and ride some of the back roads (old broadway) and circle back to Albertsons to the mexican place and have a drink and some dinner. Might be fun to checkout some of the local orchards on the way.

I would like everyone to be comfortable riding 12 to 15 MPH. If you do not know what pace you can ride, come out this time and we'll get your speed and endurance calculated (so you can see what rides will be best suited for you in the future).

Bring:

  • Obviously your bike
  • HELMET REQUIRED on WSA rides
  • Spare tube and repair stuff (if you have it)
  • Clear, yellow or other glasses for bugs as much as for sun. $8-18 safety glasses at places like Home Depot are great for biking.
  • Water in bottles or hydration pack
  • Quick energy snacks
  • Dry shirt in the car for after the ride
  • A few $$$ in case we decide to stop or go out after

We may repeat this event every Wednesday (or another night) and see if we can get some interest in wed night rides on some of the different rides in the valley.

If we get enough interest we can expand it to other areas not so close on the weekends.

If everyone going on these rides would show up on time and be prepared to ride at 6:00 it would not be a problem, when I am leading I slow down and wait at every turn or change of course so if people want to go a different way or even go back it is OK. On this night we had two people show up late and one without a helmet and if you don't have a helmet you don't ride with me. I have seen too many accidents where if the riders didn't have their helmets on they would have been hurt seriously.

Thanks Jim, good points, being on time helps us start on time. I've not had a problem with you waiting, I'm just a slower rider at this point and don't like to make people wait on me. I'll enjoy the rides more when it gets cooler.

I agree with Laney's ideas of separate groups with of us slower riders being able to join the ride but not get left behind. Thanks Laney.

I agree totally with u Laney!

I think it is a good idea, if the group wants to separate, for us to count the folks in each group so that someone doesn't get left if they have a slower bike. Also, the group needs to stop at signals and wait for others who are caught at the red light instead of not looking back and speeding away. This is not a race, guys!

I'm contemplating renting a road bike to try out since I haven't fixed my brakes on my mountain bike yet (I know, I'm a slacker) Does anyone have any recommendations on brand or which shop to rent from? Does anyone know which shop is the cheapest by chance?

No road bike. Only a stodgy elder mountain bike for roaming around town. Besides, I'll be on the water.
