Colorado River Annual Summer Clean-Up

Colorado River Summer Clean-Up

Join other WSA members and a whole load of other local boaters in cleaning the tires, soda bottles. styrofoam peanuts, discarded bikes, sleeping bags, grocery sacks and you can never guess what all else that has accumulated since last year's clean-up.

This is a great way to give a little community service while enjoying a day on the river with friends old and new. Plus, getting a picnic lunch when it's all over

There are various sections you can sign-up, or just show up, to clean.

Sign-ups are taking place at Whitewater West (our local boating shop for those who have not been there.)

They supply the bags and gloves. It is suggested you may want to bring:

  • boat of choice

raft

inflatable kayak

canoe

  • tarp to cover your boat from mud and nasty objects
  • wire cutters
  • a rake or other long grabber
  • sun protection - hat/shirt/ sunscreen
  • drinking water

HOW TO SIGN UP

  • Stop by or Phone Whitewater West [masked]
  • or phone Bob Richardson and leave message [masked]
  • or email Bob at [masked]
  • or just show up ready to work with your own boat.  Registration helps us plan food, state park passes, T-shirts, etc. so registration is best.

RSVP:

In your RSVP please state what part of the river is your preference and what kind of boat you will be using. If you have a raft and have room for a passenger or 3 or 3, please state that too.

Once we start to see who from WSA signs up and where they prefer maybe we can work out a plan to help make our presence known.

TEE SHIRTS:

If members are interested, for a nominal fee I bet, we could probably get shirts early for those WSA members who register and get them over-printed with the WSA name and maybe we could even design a WSA river logo. Please state in your RSVP if you are interested in this idea.

If anyone has connections with a screen printing operation please look into this and let Doug know what you find.

FIDO:

It is suggested, no dogs please today since they just complicate loading and maneuvering boats with all the junk involved.

Good showing of members to help a good cause! I only wished there were more 'guidelines' so that we didn't duplicate our efforts. all in all a fun day-thanks everyone!

Another good one and this one was for a good cause. For those of you who didn't make it to the BBQ, they said today with all river sections reporting, they got over 20 tires, 6 or 7 TVs, 22 Cubic Yards of trash and a hot tub. Folks from Rim Rock Adventures and some others were able to get the old hot tub to a place where a vehicle can get to it and tomorrow they are going to fetch it and take it to the dump.
Hope to see ya all again on Monday night at the pot luck here at my house.

    Hi:

I am arranging for 5 passes. Bob Richardson said we needed them. So who knows what really will happen. 3 Doug, we will meet you at McDonald's at 8:30am Sat and anyone else who would like a free pass.

hi all, I'm signed up with Whitewater West. Pete said that we don't need a park pass, they are being waived. I'll meet you at the put in at Fruita James Robb Riverside Park at 9:00. I think I won't be having a McDonald's attack, so I'll skip the Mc D!! See you all there.

I think I will plan on being at McDonalds, Fruita (555 Jurasic Court) at 8:30 AM or earlier in case I have a Mac-attack and need to jump start my cholesterol for the day. ...and...yes I will need 2 Park passes. Thanks for the help/guidance... 3D

    August 7, 2013

  • Susan Law C.

Yes there is. We may need to meet in front of McDonalds at 8:45am if I can procure a pass for you. You need 2 ?

  • Three D.

OK...Thanks for the heads-up on the launch site at Fruita State Park.. and Yes...I will need a park pass if your friend can get me one. Dennis will also need one too I imagine. We are going to need to get shuttle trucks/trailers etc. in and out. Is the time still to meet there at 9:00 AM and then run shuttles.?

We are launching at Fruita State Park. Bob Richardson, head of this event, lives behind us, he was just here and confirmed it for me. If you need a state parks pass, he can get you one.

Susan, I talked to Dennis and he thought we were launching from the bridge past (west of) Dino Museum and near Rodeo grounds. Lady from White H2o West thought so also. We are meeting there at 9:00 AM to run shuttle etc. This is what I know so far unless I hear different.. 3D
    {I thought I sent this earlier but it didn't show up so I am resending it, so if it did go before, you will get it twice...if I was a pumpkin,,, they would quit having Halloween...!!}

    3 Doug:

Jet and I will join you there. The put-in is Fruita State Park, right?

I have decided to do the section of river from Fruita to Loma.
Andy Kucel and friend are coming on my raft. After thinking about it, that should be enough folks and still leave room to haul trash so my boat is now "crewed-up". All we need now is one of our beautiful, sunny Colorado days on Sat. for another fun event for a good cause.

I'm planning on bringing a buddy so two of us will be paddling on 3Doug's boat

    August 5, 2013

  • Mary M.

Dennis is on Fruita to Loma section so will join him (my sister is also coming)

    August 5, 2013

  • Three D.

I have my 13 1/2' raft and will bring it if I can get 3 more riders willing to paddle. It takes 3 and me to pull it thru the water with paddles, especially if we fill it with debris. I have all necessary paddles and PFDs for passengers. Let me know.!

I will either use an IK or small raft. Canoes are pretty limiting for getting in and out of and carrying some found items. I prefer to do Palisade to Corn Lake (or there and beyond?). The tee shirt idea is good and I will buy 1 or maybe 2. The little raft could be paddled so it could take 1 more person besides me. IN which case Mary and I would have an inflatable kayak that could be borrowed for use by someone else.

No experience required Cindy. Easy and fun. I'm sure we could get you in a boat somehow.

    • Doug Van E.

Cindy this would be a great river event for you. Like Mary said, no experience necessary. Plan to come on along.
