CANYONEERING - Entrajo Canyon then Pleiades (7 small waterfalls) Canyon

CANYONEERING in Moab area

Entrajo Canyon then Pleiades (7 small waterfalls) Canyon

These are both short canyons and both will be 'wet'. Entrajo will be warm and wet from recent rains filling holes. I do not recall anything that will be a swim but there will be some wading. Since this is down in the desert we want to do it in the cool of the morning.

Each canyon may take a small group about 2-3 hours; a larger group probably 3-4 hours for each canyon. With the drive over, the drive between loactions and the canyons, it will be a full day.

Pleiades is the only clear, cold water, waterfall in this part of Utah. A 10-15 minute walk from the car will bring us to a drainage to work our way down. Then almost miraculously, a stream emerges from the ground and plunges immediately over 7 small waterfalls. This is off the La Sal Mountain Road at least 2000' elevation higher than Moab, we will do this canyon during the heat of the late afternoon. Total walk to the first rappel may be 20-25 minutes; return walk to the cars is nothing longer.

WHEN/WHERE:

Meet at 7 AM at Starvin Arvins in Fruita for carpooling &/or caravanning.

BRING:

• All the usual canyoneering gear

• HELMET REQUIRED for all WSA canyoneering adventures

• Wet suit if you have one

• Raincoat to shed the water falling in Pleiades (wetsuit might, depending on how much flow there is, be more comfortable but not necessary)

• Extra dry clothes and shoes to be left in the car

• Lunch & snacks (can eat lunch at the car between canyons. They are a 30-45 minute drive apart)

• Drinking water

I'd like to make a big deal out of the fact that this was
Clayton Bailey's FIRST CANYON EVER. He's previous experience was rapping off a warehouse building. Not only were these his first canyons.....They were class B & C canyons. He did an excellent job! I was very impressed. HIGH FIVE for Clay!!!

I keep wondering how many many amazing things there are too see out in this part of the country. I had a great time going through the canyons and enjoying the beautiful views. Thanks for taking us out for another fun adventure Doug.

I enjoyed both canyons. Although they weren't far apart geographically they were two completely different canyons. Hot sandstone and desert for one and cold, wet, mossy, lush flora for the second. I loved the diversity.

Please talk with Sandy Crow from SLC. She may want to camp with you. She will join us for the canyon Saturday. She has done >800 jumps so you may get her to jump on Sunday. I sent you her # by text just now.

What time would we need to be in Moab by?

    September 4, 2013

    • Doug Van E.

If we leave Fruita at 8 we will be in Moab by 9:30 Saturday morning. Do you skydive, Dawn? Or if you want to (have to do tandem jumps first) one of our group members is a sky diver and willbe jumping Friday and possibly Sunday. She is looking for more people who want to sky dive to help share the cost of the plane. If you are interested, call or text Stacie Boyles[masked]
