            December Potluck and

                            Holiday Season Party Hawaiian Style

                                             (w/ gift exchange)

Okay we can't all be as lucky as Barbara and spend our winters in Hawaii, but we can imagine! Wear your Hawaiian beach clothes and get in the spirit of the season. Also, Barbara has recently refinished her floors, so please remove shoes at the door. But why not wear those crazy Christmas socks that Mom gave you and you never wear!

By having this on a Friday night and offering sleeping spaces for out-of-towners. We hope many WSA members from the hinterlands will join us in Grand Junction for the evening's festivities, then stay around to hike or ski or snowshoe or canyoneer or . . . on Saturday or maybe even all weekend.

Montrose, Olathe, Gunnison come on down.  Glenwood, Rifle, Basalt hope to see you too. Ouray, Salt Lake City, Telluride, Salida, AND any-other-where in Colorado or Utah that we have members we hope to see you all. GJ locals will open our guest rooms and couches to you for staying over night so no need to drive home after an eve of festivities.

What to bring:

*Potluck dish to share

*Crazy Christmas socks and Hawaiian wear

*Wrapped gift for gift exchange (under $15.00 and perhaps an outdoor theme)

*Anything you'd like to drink

*Holiday cheer!

Mele Kalikimaka means Merry Christmas!

Fun evening. Crazy. Beautiful home, and what a great hostess! Thank you Barbara! Amazing food. What a fun group. I enjoyed meeting a few new people and catching up with others. I can just tell we are going to have a great river season next year.

First of all, many thanks to Barbara and all her lei'ers for the tremendous party atmosphere. Then thanks to all for our usual great food and the over the top selection of gifts for the wild and wholly exchange. Some people have said that my wife Mary was THEE BEST at making her own rules during the gift exchange. All I know is "the wide is always right".

A wonderous, colorful, happy and definitely WARM time. Thanks Barbara for your hostess-ing and of course to all the elves who put the gift exchange together only to the rules go by the wayside. There is nothing that says "togetherness" like getting to steal someone else's gift (several times) All in good fun and good humor. Food was awesome and thank you to Daniel for having a 50th birthday on top of it. Splendid!!!

Had a blast. Delicious food and good cheer, really fun theme, and wonderful to see friends I haven't seen in a while. Great to meet some new folks - you see we're a fun group, now imagine us taking that enthusiam to fantastic outdoor playgrounds! - hope we see you again. Barbara, thanks so much for having us, and we wish you every happiness in your new Hawaiian home. What a life; we're so jealous! Now... How about a few pictures on here!

I love our potlucks because we are never did what to bring, and always have a great assortment of food. It was great to hang out with people I hadn't seen for six months and meet new members. I got a hat, socks, sun screen, bug spray for backpacking so thanks to who brought that gift! I do think the gift exchange was better managed last year, though. Can't wait till next time! Have a very merry Christmas and happy new year!

Along with a potluck dish to share, I'll be bringing along one of my home made fruit cakes. Just a heads up though, I've been basting it with brandy (brings out the best in fruit cakes), so think of it as something to eat and drink at the same time. HA.

does anyone have a place I can stay for the week-end? I was al so wondering if anyone is coming to Moab for the contra dance on Saturday. I am in Durango and trying to decide whether to stay here and dance or go home to host any dancers.

    December 5, 2013

    • Doug Van E.

With the weather being so cold I am going to look for places for outdoor ice skating. Had been thinking to go to Moab to cross country ski among the red rocks but skating sounds more like what I want to do. So, for me, I think I will not go to Moab for dancing this weekend. As for a place for you to stay, our guest room is not yet spoken for so we could give you a bed pending my wife's OK on that one. But is not here, there will be other places available, guaranteed. If you have ice skates, if it does not snow between now and Dec 13, bring your skates; and other outdoor sports stuff.

Come, and enjoy if you want a "Mele Kalikimaka" Merry Christmas Hawaiian style at my house, attire Hawaiian shirts, mumus ,sandals whayever you can think of to wear beach style, get leid at the door, and enjoy a Grand Junction luau!

    November 14, 2013

    • Andrew K.

Haha! I can do that! We could include said "theme" in the description. I was wondering if it was an "ugly sweater" party

You want Hawaiian? You asked for it!

      December 5, 2013

  • Suzy N.

Are we gonna do the gift exchange the way we did it last year? That was FUN! I liked the sayings on the numbered slips of paper we each picked out.

    December 5, 2013

  • Suzy N.

    Was it $15 last year?

    November 15, 2013

    • Doug Van E.

$15 sounds like a good maximum value. As much as people like to use this as an opportunity to pass off old stuff n junk, you can get some pretty useful outdoor things for that price, or less. So, let's please encourage outdoor related gifts.
