McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area and Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness
Devil's, Flume and Pollock Bench Trail System
Once we shuttle people (and cars) from Devil's Canyon TH to Pollock Bench TH our hike will begin. Today's hike begins on the P1 trail to F2 then to F1 and finally to D1. The total distance will be approx 8 miles.
The views are incredible as we will see as we hike along the ridge of Pollock Bench and with Pollock Canyon below. We will see a deep gorge of the Precambrian formation containing the red dirt of the Chinle formation, steep cliffs of Wingate Sandstone capped by a layer of Kayenta Sandstone. The colors are amazing - especially of the pink Entrada sandstone with its striped layers of white. Above all this crowns the Kayenta formation and on the very top of all of this is the colored clay and sandstone layers of the Morrison Formation. As the writer in gjhikes.com comments, "It's like looking back in time over millions of years all in one gaze."
