Mount Garfield Hike

Start your May off right (or at leat make your calf muscles real sore) by hiking Mount Garfield the first Saturday of May.

This is a fun, demanding hike that will test your fitness level and reward you with great views.  If you are famaliar with the trail, feel free to start early or show up late.  Some of us will adjourn to the Palisade Brewery after the hike for lunch and beer (because beer has carbs and carbs promote healing...).

Please note that Mount Garfield is a strenuous hike so if you haven't hiked it before or are not in the best of shape you may want to do a Garfield hike at a later date - I will probably post one Garfield hike a month throughout the summer.

You should bring water and sunsceen.  Trekking poles are handy if you normally use them.  I also recommend hking shoes or boots (or trail shoes) with a more aggressive tread than standard running shoes as the soil for the first 1/4 mile is very loose and the terrain initially is very steep.

This was my first outing with WSA! I really enjoyed the hike and thanks to Randy taking the group up a different route! There were 8 in our group and I enjoyed meeting everyone! Great time!

I'll be at the Trailhead at about 8:45. Due to some knee problems I'll be moving slow and bringing up the rear on this hike. If you're a little late this morning it is not a problem - with the great weather it will probably be a trail highway today.

Where is the parking lot located. I have not seen it passing on 70 highway. Yes I am very new to the area.

From the Palisade exit on I-70 go south just past St Kathryn Cellars and turn right (west) on G 7/10. Take G 7/10 till it ends (1.5 miles) and turn right (north). Go through the tunnel under I-70 and there's the parking lot.

Did this Easter Sunday and had a good time though my knees hate the last part of the descent. I cant go but wish you all the best and when you get done you all may want to check out the Palisade Brews and Cruise Festival which opens at 11 a.m. with over 25 Colo Brewers and over 30 food and vendor booths. Donna and I will be working so if you get by come track us down and say hi.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
