Monthly Potluck- first of many meet, greet, eat and share evenings to come

Monthly Potluck

first of many meet, greet, eat and share evenings to come

WHEN/WHERE:

Meet at 6 PM for potluck dinner. Try to be there by 6 or a few minutes before or after. 6-7 is the eating hour to be followed by a presentation of some sort each month. Finished by ~8 PM.

With over 160 members, more than 120 of those within potluck range, I would hope we see atleast 25 for this first of what will be an on-going series of 2nd Monday of the month potlucks.

Rather than a presentation for this first potluck Mary and I have decided that she will create a loop of slides to show throughout the evening of past Adventurers trips. Perhaps these will generate some discussion about trips past. Above all, we want to generate discussions about what members want to do during the coming months: ski- cross country or downhill/snowboard, snowshoe, continue local evening and weekend hikes, more trips to the UT desert opposite direction from snow? Ghost town visits like Sego, UT? Anasazi rock art and ruins visits like the recent trip to The Comb and The Citadel? Ski or snowshoe-in hut trip? Day trips down south ending with a hot springs stop in Ouray? One or more 14'ers each month of the year?

BRING:

- A dinner item (preferably homemade but just not chips n dip, please) to share with 6-8

Suggestions: salad, main course, dessert, garlic bread, elk stew, cassorole, crock pot meal, hearty winter soup

- Your own serving spoons, bowls, etc.

- Beverages (we will know if we can bring adult beverages when we determine a location)

- Good cheer and attitude of fun and sharing

COST:

Small contribution to cover the cost of buying paper plates, plastic ware and cups.

KIDS:

You bet. If you have them and want to bring them, that is fine.

DOGS:

Great on most of our hikes not in National Parks but tonight please leave Fido home

IDEAS   IDEAS  IDEAS    IDEAS

WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR IDEAS, PLEASE

We need both suggestions and contacts for places that we may hold future, now to be, monthly potluck as well as ideas for speakers, slide shows; presentations related to the outdoors primarily in western Colorado and eastern Utah, but not completely limited to those topic areas.

It was great seeing how many people showed up. Food was excellent and I had lots of fun talking with some old and some new friends. Many thanks to Mary for opening her studio for all of us to meet. Looking forward to the next events if my work schedule allows it.

Great idea! Should have arrived sooner. Now that I know where it is getting there shouldn't be a problem. In just the short time however I had a nice chat with a couple of people and..and got some free apple pie too. Awesome!

Dough, I still cannot put my comment about the potluck, so I will do it here:

It was fantastic. I was blown away by the huge, enthusiastic turnout. Lot of great info and interesting mini-stories came out about folks as they introduced themselves. The food has to be the best, most delicious and generous spread on any table on Monday night this week any where in town. Keep up the great cooking everyone --- the food was awesome. The people were great, the trips past and future discussed were exciting . . . all in all, this was the single best evening this group could have had at this point in the goup's growth and development. Thanks to all of you, thanks to all of 'us' for energizing such a wonderful group of adventurers and budding friends. Many thanks to Mary Hertert for letting us gather at her shop, Color Creek Fiber Art. We missed you, Steve. A few photos to be posted by Tuesday eve.

I'm bringing my kiddos, so for my fellow adventurers out there who have been oscillating between attending or not, due to uncertainty about bringing children (as I have been) - debate not longer and come on out! My daughter is 11 and my son is 3, (I don't think my older two will be with me") we will stay as long as we can and perhaps we will be able to take the opportunity to brainstorm some kid friendly WSA adventures too!

    Doug,

If a place is needed for this first potluck, we can do it at our house. We live in the Redlands off S. Camp Road and could comfortably seat a party of 20 or so, 8 more outdoors if the weather complies.
