WSA Monthly Potluck is back indoors

with dinner then speaker format

Member Barbara volunteered her house and Member, Mack Dodge volunteered her knowledge of geocaching to make this a wonderful evening.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

Plan to arrive a little before 6 PM or as close to 6 as possible. Bring any of your favorite culinary creations; maybe even practice on us with what you may be making for a thanksgiving dinner later this month.

We will plan to do most of our eating between 6-7. At 7 Mack will begin her talk about the sport and skills of geocaching. If you have a GPS, please bring it. If you know geocaching and how to operate your device, maybe we'll have time for some of us who are not geocachers to get some hands on GPS help.

Hopefully later in the week many of us will also participate in part of a downtown geocaching scavenger hunt the Museum of Western CO has developed. If you want to take part in the scavenger hunt please print these information and clue pages, bring them tonight and we'll decide how we want to do the event, say maybe Wednesday evening.

Please note in your RSVP if you will be bringing a GPS.

This is a family friendly event and many kids really get into geocaching since it is a treasure hunt.

What to bring:

  • food for the pot luck - main dish, salad, dessert- your choice
  • folding chair
  • your own serving plates and utensils
  • beverage of choice (adult beverages in moderation are OK)
  • GPS of you have one
  • Note pad & pen- especially of you are just learning thegeocaching terminology, tips and tricks

Directions:

If you're coming from town, head west on Broadway past Safeway & Two Rivers Winery, look for numbered streets on the right.  At 20 1/2 Rd.  take a right continue 1/4 of a mile to Conestoga, turn left on Conestoga & go to a T in the road take another left onto Paint Pony CT.  3rd house on the left  2028 Paint Pony Ct.   Tan colored stucco ranch style home.

Ego caching is a lot of fun. I have maintained caches in several states. Have not done any in CO yet.

Forgot to give cred to Zeb! The Museum presentation was great, too! Sounds like a neat way to get started with Geocaching and learn a lot about the area's history and culture.

Great gathering! Fantastic that so many people turned out. Good food, great presentations (Nordic Council and Geocaching), fun time! Glad we made the drive. Now... Let's get crazy-creative and make up some really COOL geocaches in Junction and down here in the Montrose/Ridgway area to hunt for! Can't wait! Thanks for having us, Barbara. You have the perfect home for entertaining!

Fabulous house and vary gracious hostess. Thanks Barbara. Many thanks to Mackenzie for her very lively, animated and inspiring talk on geocaching. Zeb's tale of the creation and method on the Museum's downtown scavenger hunt was very interesting. Thanks also to Annie for the announcement about the start of cross country ski season. Mike sharing your Rattlesnake Arches photos was a nice way to savor that memory and let new members see some of the recent WSA fun. Welcome to the MANY NEW MEMBERS who attended this evening. Now we look forward to seeing many of you outdoors with WSA during the 30 days between now and the next potluck. Great food everyone - that is a thanks we all shared with one another and it was tasty.

Does anyone know who from the Museum developed their scavenger hunt? Maybe we could get them to drop by this evening and tell us a little bit about it.
