Howdy, Name is Doug...AKA: 3Doug...AKA: 3D
Where on W Slope do I live: Olathe area...81425. How long have I been here: Off and on for 65 years. (Was born in Montrose ...1946) How did I learn about WSA group: Internet..(Long Live Google...!!) My son belongs to a couple of "Meet-ups" in the Las Vegas, NV area. He said I should give it a try..? PS: (He was right..!!)
What are 3 of my favorite activities: Fightin', fornicatin', and wild bull ridin'....But, I got too old for a couple of those so I took up camping, hiking, rafting, fishing, some skiing, skeet shooting, and cheating at cards. I quit hunting cause I don't need the meat.
Topic for "after dinner" presentation...Wow..That's a tough one: How about, "How to prevent getting Salmonella and other diseases at a pot luck dinner."...NO.??..probably not.!! However, I would like to learn more about edible weeds and natural plants common to our area. Maybe even feature a pot luck using local forage and maybe rabbit, venison, trout, elk, crawdads, crickets etc....??
I am "sorta" retired so I can go "sorta" anytime with enough advance notice.
I have a 14' white-water raft and paddles/life-vests for a load...and...I have a 2 seat inflatible kayak/pontoon boat which is a lot of fun. Just returned from a float/camp jaunt on the Colorado River below Hoover Dam with my son...Great trip..! (see profile photo) I also love humor, joke and story-tellin', and have been known to write a poem or two. Was originator of the "Ann Slanders" column for the San Juan Horseshoe Newspaper/Scandal Sheet when it first started.
So far, I would have to give them 5 stars***** only because they don't have 6 or 7 or 8 stars available.
Hey Doug, it looks like we may end up hanging onto your military surplus snowshoes til winter again, as we keep forgetting to give them to ya when we cross paths. I had them in my car at the potluck Friday and forgot all about them til we got home! Sorry! One of these days soon we'll take a detour to Olathe, or throw 'em in the car the night of the June potluck at Jenn's. Hope to see you there with another of your scrumptious gourmet delights!
Sorry if I butted in. My efforts are to get people finding their own rides --- that is why I published the places to rent boats.
Hi Doug, welcome to Grand Junction Hike-N-Bike! Ha ha, of course I already know why you are called Three Doug ... I am Steve, from that other group (wonder whatever happened to "Doug Squared", never met him myself). Hope you can find some things on the calendar worth traveling to get to. See ya soon!
Three Doug, go to the start of the class then leave to join Denise's group where you will learn much more than you will in the final 30 minutes of the REI class (I've taken the REI class; its good but you'll learn more out with Denise and others.).
If you bring another smoked turkey . . . . my tastebuds will be in heaven at this potluck!!!
The Black Canyon below Hoover Dam is one of the real jewels of southern Nevada/NW Arizona; odor free hot springs, neat feeder canyons, beautiful water color, and a great way to beat the baking summer heat (~58degree water); and now it's an awesome way to see the Hoover Dam AND the new bridge that spans the Colorado river (3D's profile pic). I moved from Boulder City ("the town that built the Hoover Dam") this year, and the Black Canyon is one of the places I'll recommend above many others.
That's a great profile pic. Where is that?
Did you stop at all the hot springs along that 13 mile float in the Black Canyon below Hoover Dam? Is there any or good fishing, do you know in that part of the river? My wife and I have done that trip and love it.
