Good to go
Uncompahgre Plateau above Montrose for 17 years
mountaineering, hiking, climbing
probably too far unless happen to be GJ way
mostly weekends & working
former CMC activity co chair
my email is [masked] to communicate for sopris and mt wilson.
I work during the week so I only have weekends to climb, hike, etc.
My coworker told me today that most people wait to climb sopris in july and august when the snow melt. I am busy rest of may with trips all ready plan and not sure I would be available in June. I will probably want to wait to do sopris till July or August.
I would be up to doing a cohost for Mt. Sopris. I have heard from locals that snow can stay on it till June or early July. Looking at my calender at this point the last weekend in July or August would be the best time for me to be available to colead a trip up Sopris. I will keep an eye on Sopris and let you know when the snow appears to be melted.
I guess I will leave a comment on the Garrett and Martin book in two places. My version is a 1989 one so your version probably is a first edition.
In that case, put me down! I'll ask my better half if he would like to go (he has proper skill). Are crampons going to be likely?
Not sure if I have the proper CV for Wilson-ElD. I may have to wait for next year!
Thanks for telling me about the trip. I have climbed Sherman and Sheridan numerous times, mabe like 6 times. I would probably go but am on-call that weekend.
Nope, no hole in the ground. Drove out last week, only stakes. Right now I am being optimistic and thinking July is going to be moving month, but would not be surprised at August-Sept at this point, especially with the weather.
The career change was not to be, alas! Anyways, I see nothing wrong with spending every day in the mountains, aside from not being able to pay my bills! The snow may keep the build out a bit - we were supposed to have a hole in the ground by end of Feb. I went out on Friday and we barely had stakes. We will see.
Thanks Ron. The downhill conditions at powderhorn this weekend were incredible. I think an after work trip with the dogs is in order for me.
