Wilderness & Remote First Aid - Awareness Day

ABOUT FIRST AID INC.  is running a wilderness awareness and first aid course for our WAG members and anyone who may be interested.  November 30 - cost is $90.00 plus GST and you can call us at[masked] and register.  We take VISA/MC. This course is designed for anyone who plays in the mountains.  Whether you day hike, camp, snow shoe, x ski this is a fun and interactive day designed for you!  We will have scenarios that are geared to your leisure activities.   We had an injured person on the mountain this year and we learned a lot and fortunately she is well and back playing in the mountains.  This raised the question what would you do if this was you or someone in your group?  Are you prepared?  What could I pack?  How do we manage as a group? So we were asked to set up a day just for you!  We have 2 instructors booked to lead your day - one a previous guide, white water rescuer and first aid instructor and a fantastic wilderness and remote first aid instructor.  The other is the owner of About First Aid who is a first aid instructor, wilderness & remote first aid instructor, instructor trainer - previous EMT-A and outdoor enthusiast.

This was a great eye opener! I apologize to my charges for my lack of knowledge!… I'm afraid they didn't' get the best care…
The day out did highlight the items that should be in my backpack and why. It also provided a framework for what is to be done if you find people having problems on the trails. This ranged from assessing what their problem was (or could be), and then offered ways to address it, through to considering how to get them out of the woods. The information also offered a strategy for what is to be done before anyone is sent for help if it was to be an overnight stay with the injured person.

Program was excellent and very eye opening considering the various potential scenarios
in which a hiker or skier could be potentially injured. I got a lot information that I will use in any potential situation
