Bring instruments, music, music stand

The ACMP (chamber music organization) has suggested that musicians should come together on March 1 and March 2 to for a "PLay in"   throughout the world. That is our plan - for our group to get together.

In our group we have, roughly, 3 cellists, 3 violinists, 3 violists, 4 pianists, 2 flutists, and 1 classical guitar.

Somehow, I will find an electronic piano (any offers?).

We need to form groups to play, one group at a time.

For example, I have Bach and Handle Trio sonatas, some for 2 flutes, some for flute and violin, all including cello and piano.   Thus, these 4 musicians can come together at a given time to play.   The rest can listen for that period, or go for a walk in the marina.  Members can get together ahead of the play-in to decide what they want to do, or decide on line, or by e-mail.

Please let me know if you are coming to our play-in, and what music you want to play, and with what other instruments.

See you on March 1!

Eve

I never heard back from anyone wanting to play any pieces with keyboard, so I guess I won't come.

Hi Renee, most of us had never played together, and we didn't know what everyone's interests or skills were. Everyone showed up and we took turns playing. I was expecting you to join us. What kind of music were you interested in playing? Eve

What a great start!!!! I think everyone had a great time and we all learned a bit about being better musicians with this opportunity to play in small groups. Some good music was made this day..

    Hello Eve,
I will be there at 1 p.m. Jerry and I have 2 short duets prepared. When I clicked on the "yes" button to say that I'll attend, it said "closed to RSVPs". But I will be there. Thank you for hosting!

Hi Eve, Did you want to try to meet prior to the 1st to play through the 2 pieces we selected in the RedWood book? Looking forward to the 1st.

How about Tues. at 9 or 9:30? What's easier for you, for me to come to your place or you come to our house? Either is good for me.

Sorry I didn't notice your message. We need to use e-mail, it's easier. Tomorrow is fine, I'd much rather you come here, I hate to drive. 9:30 sounds great. My e-mail address is [masked]

    Hi Eve,
I played through the Rosewood book and found several that would be a good start. This are list below. Let me know which of these work for you. Maybe we can settle on three?
    Back Menuet on Page 7
    Rameau Menuet on 8
    Mozart Spring Song on 26
    Subert Serenade on 36
Let me know what you think.

Perfect -- I'll work on these 2 for this next Meetup.

Hi Eve, Would you like to met prior to the 1st to play through the 2 pieces we've selected? I'm generally available both day and evenings, prior commitments not withstanding. Martha and I met last week and had a good session with the 2 works we will do.

I'm already playing at two other ACMP Play-ins that day and will be available after 6pm. Let me know if you guys are playing later and I'll stop by.

We'll be kicked out of the Leasing office at 5:00. I hope we know more about our members for further meetings.

    For the March 1 Meetup:

As of now we have 1 violist, 1 violinist, 2 flutist, 3 pianists and 1 guitar. So far we have one electronic piano of unknown quality. Pianists, are you all for sure coming? Do you want to come and do some listening and socializing, or choose a time slot between 1:00 and 4:00?

What about the rest of our members - we at least, need a cello! And more violins.

I'm attending March 1st - piano or digital keyboard for harpsichord or organ. Please let me know if you want to play something with keyboard.

I was just listening to Boccherini Flute quintets (Flute, violin, viola, 2 cellos). Sounded good - anyone interested in playing that music? If enough people show an interest I'll see if I can find the sheet music.

I think that would be awesome. I love the quintet dynamic.

Hi Everyone, I just discovered a cool site for the Chamber Musicians of Northern California that lists recommended pieces in terms of instruments, composer, and ability level (very easy, easy, and so on...). Here is the address: http://www.cmnc.org/index.php

    Hi Jerry,
Why don't you pick something out that would be fun, and relatively easy. Just tell me so I can prepare.
The Siciliana by Bach is nice, but the guitar part looks daunting.

    Hi -
Eve, I have the Rosewood book and are starting to look it over. Pretty challenging stuff for the guitar. They'll take some time. Did you have a few you'ed like me to look at? In the mean time, Martha and I are planning to get together next week to work on a few of the Handel pieces that Kate passed out. I'll play the flute parts on the guitar and Martha will play the cello parts.

I don't have any sheet music printed out, but I have a printer and IMSLP (the world's largest database of free scores online), so we can play whatever we can print from that. If you haven't become addicted to IMSLP yet, check it out: http://imslp.org/wiki/Main_Page. IMSLP has nearly EVERYTHING that is in the public domain. I just typed "flute violin cello piano" into Google (since that's who has RSVPd so far) and IMSLP came up with this: http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:For_flute,_violin,_cello,_piano_(arr)

We can view all the possible compositions that exist for that arrangement. It appears that Beethoven's Septet has an arrangement by Hummel for flute, cello, piano and violin that looks sightread-able. Once we meet, we will get a better sense of if we want to form groups to meet regularly or just meet up for occasional sightreading. Here's a guitar quintet by Boccherini: http://imslp.org/wiki/Guitar_Quintet_in_E_minor,_G.451_(Boccherini,_Luigi)

I'll bring my violin and viola. I would love to play a bit of Brahms if that's possible!
