A HIJACKING @ Laemmle Royal, Saturday, 6/22, 4:30 PM

How much money are human lives worth, if almost certain death is the alternative? From the looks of the trailer, that's the question that this Danish film seems to be wrestling with. If you've been watching the Danish political drama Borgen on KCET, you might recognize some of the actors, but that doesn't mean anything. It's just an added treat...:)

Tickets are available on Laemmle's website, but I doubt that this will sell out.

Dinner and discussion after the movie at Churros Calientes, a short walking distance away.

I'll meet you in the lobby of the theatre. If you don't contact me personally, you will be marked as a "NO SHOW."

Synopsis:

The cargo ship MV Rozen is heading for harbour when it is hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean. Amongst the men on board are the ship’s cook Mikkel and the engineer Jan, who along with the rest of the seamen are taken hostage in a cynical game of life and death. With the demand for a ransom of millions of dollars a psychological drama unfolds between the CEO of the shipping company and the Somali pirates.

Sorry, but it defies belief--and undermines realistic credibility--that an international crime on the high seas, with terrorists and murder, wouldn't--in some significant way--at least interface, and more likely involve, government, police, authorities, etc.

Very good movie, IMO. Realistic, but great dramatic tension. Good script, well-structured. Fortunately, this is playing in the largest theater at the Royal, which is a decent size, with a decent-sized screen.

Lindsie: It had not yet been 'released.' It was unwieldy for a meet up downtown. It opens Sept. 27th and I will be happy to organize a meet up then. Here is the website: http://www.inequality...

I'm a little confused about the date now--you're saying "tickets will be available on Tuesday 6/25?" You do mean this Saturday the 22nd for the movie?
