LINCOLN @ Landmark, Saturday, 11/10, 7:05 PM

A Steven Spielberg movie about Abraham Lincoln suggests a nearly unavoidable final scene, with John Williams' ear-pounding score reaching its heart-breaking conclusion while I pull tissues by the handful out of the Kleenex box that I brought...but...while most of his movies end like that, they don't all end like that. In fact, Munich, written by Tony Kushner (who won an Oscar for his screenplay), wasn't like that at all: Williams' score was uncharacteristically subtle and delicate, and Kushner's ending was allusive and thoughtful. And they're all together again! Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook, and Tommy Lee Jones, the trailer suggests reverent veneration, but I'm hoping for much, much more. Come on along, but bring some Kleenex just in case...:)

Tickets are available at the Landmark website. I'm in L1.

Dinner before the movie is posted separately.

Synopsis:

Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award(R) winner Daniel Day-Lewis in "Lincoln," a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President's tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

The movie made me realize how Pr. Lincoln is similar in someways to President Obama. Although some of you may not agree with me this is how I feel about pre. Obama and i'm not ashamed to say it out loud. I LOVE YOU MR. PRESIDENT. YOU WILL BE KNOWN THROUGHOUT HISTORY MANY CENTURIES TO COME -THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THE GREATEST PRESIDENT'S THAT TRULY CARED ABOUT IT'S PEOPLE. I BELIEVE YOU WILL BE UP THERE NEXT TO LINCOLN WHEN HISTORY BOOKS ARE WRITTEN. RIGHT NOW MANY PEOPLE DON'T SEE IT BUT THAT'S WHAT HISTORY IS ALL ABOUT. PEOPLE DO NOT APPRECIATE THE REAL THING UNTIL IT'S GONE. LOVE YOU!!

Very moving, very historically interesting film. I think this will be a classic. Was not overly long IMO. DD Lewis, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones--all superb.

Excellent movie, but not the masterpiece that I was hoping for...Daniel Day-Lewis's amazing performance will define our impression of the real Lincoln for a long time. Great supporting performances by Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones. It was almost like being present at one of America's greatest turning points...Oscars all over the place...:)

Good movie... Not sure if the movie will win academy award for best picture, however Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field has good chance.

    Hi, gc...
If you don't mind possibly sitting on one side of the front row, or not getting a ticket at all, you can wait, but, since tickets will be available for purchase for longer than one month, and Bond is hugely popular, I'll be very surprised if this doesn't sell out...
