Announcing a new Meetup for Los Angeles Film Enthusiasts!

What: Three Concert Film Documentaries @ The Aero

When: Sunday, August 29,[masked]:30 PM

Where: Aero Theatre
1328 Montana Ave crosstreet: 14th St.
Santa Monica, CA 90403
(310)[masked] or (323) 466-FILM

Come for one of these or come for all three and feast your eyes and ears on a bit of folk, rock and blues history as these documentaries feature Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and the infamous Newport Folk Festival of 1967 which featured Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Dylan, Howlin Wolf and others.

There's maybe 4 people interested in all this but it's a Sunday night and doesn't interfere with anyone else's Saturday night movie plans. So don't make me sit through these by myself ;)

L.A. Premiere of Leonard Cohen Concert Film! World Premiere of Dylan Film Outtakes! Folk, Blues & Roots Triple-Bill Extravaganza!

LEONARD COHEN: LIVE AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT 1970, 2009, MLF, 65 min. Dir. Murray Lerner. In a legendary performance 40 years ago, the then 35-year-old Cohen held a crowd of 600,000 spellbound for an hour-long show that started at 4 a.m. The best film document of Cohen?s early period, including major hits such as "Suzanne," "So Long Marianne," "The Stranger Song," "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye," "Diamonds In The Mine" and "Famous Blue Raincoat" - with Cohen backed by his group The Army - led by producer Bob Johnston. Trailer

BOB DYLAN: THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR, 2007, MLF, 83 min. Dir. Murray Lerner. Drawing from hours of previously unseen footage shot over several years at the Newport Folk Festival in the early-to-mid 1960s. Murray Lerner documents the remarkably swift metamorphosis of Bob Dylan from his first Newport appearance in the summer of 1963 as the scrawny, Guthrie-inspired protest singer to his historic and controversial 1965 appearance unveiling his new rock-star incarnation. Plus previously unseen Dylan performances!

FESTIVAL, 1967, MLF, 90 min. Director Murray Lerner Oscar-nominated documentary chronicles all the major artists at the Newport Folk Festival from 1962 to 1966. Includes Dylan, Joan Baez, Donovan, Judy Collins, Johnny Cash, plus blues legends Mississippi John Hurt, Son House, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and many more! Discussion between films with director Murray Lerner. Buy Tickets
