September 2012 Newsletter

From: Lindsie
Sent on: Wednesday, September 5, 2012 12:02 PM

Hi, Film and Food Enthusiasts...

I'm sending out the first monthly newsletter for the group, and I hope that you'll take the time to read it. If you prefer to read it online as a PDF, the link is here:

We're also on Facebook, so if you “Like” us, you'll receive movie updates on your wall right after they're posted on the meetup site, with a link to the meetup spamming, I promise!!

Film, Food, and Friends September 2012 Newsletter

Hi, Film and Food Enthusiasts...

My name is Lindsie, and I’m the new (three weeks ago) Organizer of the group. I’ve been an Assistant Organizer since February of 2008, as many of you will recall. The last several months have been somewhat disorganized, but I intend to change that. The reorganization is a work in progress, and this monthly newsletter is a part of that project. I hope that you’ll find this useful...

If you want to remain a member of the group, please visit the website at least once every 90 days. If you don’t, you will be removed from the group, because we clearly don’t meet your needs.

September’s Highlight Event

On September 14, the most eagerly awaited movie of the year, Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, will open nationwide. From one of this generation’s finest filmmakers, and one of the nominees for a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, it’s safe to say that it will be a major contender on every critic’s “Movie of the Year” list, and a contender for all of this year’s prestigious awards. Metacritic rates it at an 88, based on six reviews from the Venice screening...if reviews mean anything to you, check out what The Guardian has to buffs should not miss this one.

We have two meetups scheduled for the opening weekend of this one: On Saturday, September 15, at the Landmark, and Sunday, September 16, at the Arclight Hollywood Dome (in 70 mm!).  Please take a look, and make a plan to attend at least one of them...:)

Also Scheduled

September 14--MASQUERADE w/ Lee Byun-hun, at LACMA

September 24--AI WEIWEI: NEVER SORRY @ Hammer Museum

September 29--LOOPER @ Arclight Hollywood

The results of the Theatre poll are in: with 60 people casting votes, 34 of you voted for The Landmark in Westwood, and 26 voted for the Arclight Hollywood.

I will be scheduling events at both theatres in the coming weeks, with the Landmark likely to be favored. The group began with mostly Westsiders, so that’s no surprise. Attendance at the Arclight events will determine how often we go there. I can usually count on more than 5 people at the Landmark, not so much at the Arclight. If you want events at the Arclight, please come to some of them.

That’s all for now. If you find this newsletter useful, or feel like I’m just cluttering up your Inbox, please let me know at [address removed]. I’m looking forward to your input...really!...:)
