Growing a Programmer from Scratch

The Eastside and Westside Ruby Study Groups meet-up again, this time at OPODZ in Little Tokyo. The fabulous people of OPODZ have benevolently lent us their space and time and will host the event in their coworking location for the evening.

We generally have a theme for our monthly meetups. This month it is "growing a programmer from scratch." We are so proud to have the talented Giles Bowkett gracing us with a presentation. Giles is a ruby zen master responsible for loads of influential ruby code and he's a good musician to boot.

Intro to Ruby with Giles Bowkett
How to get started as a programmer. How to get from "I
just started" to "I can get stuff done with this." Giles Bowkett will do a to Ruby presentation which is a must see. Giles is an amazing presenter and sets the bar high. If you feel like you've made it past the beginner stages than this is your lucky day. If you are a beginner you will be inspired and learn the path to success.

Presentations by Machiko Yasuda , Theresa Luu, Emilia Kubo Kirschenbaum & Shana Weitzen from General Assembly - Some members from our group who attended General Assembly this summer are going to present the projects that they have been working on. They will describe their personal growth as programmers and present the projects they have been working on.

This is a Meetup Group based on the weekly Ruby Study Group that takes place every Thursday on the East & West sides of Los Angeles. Once a month we all meet in one location to learn, catch up with each other and meet new people.

AHHH! I wish I could go to this, but I won't be back in town until the 23rd :(. Giles, Machiko, and Theresa are some of my favorite people. Will someone please take video so I can watch it?

This will be my first with this group and I am completely new to programming. Do I need to bring anything with me? Is this the right event for a complete beginner to attend? Thanks!
