Mtg. (7:30-9:00 pm): Topic: The birth of Jesus- obvious errors in the biblical gospel nativity stories?

Proposed Plan:
-> 15 min. Bernie presents evidence of errors in the biblical stories for the birth of Jesus
-- Similarities/discrepancies between the nativity stories in Matthew and Luke gospels
-- The Micah prophesy of the Savior to be born in Bethlehem
-- After the birth in Bethlehem, did the family go to Egypt (per matthew) or Nazareth (per Luke)?
-- The dangers of creating a third Gospel... adding to the "word of God
-- How do scholars deal with these passages?

-> 15 min. Henri Warren (a Christian) will defend/explain the supposed errors

-> 60 min. Audience Q & A

Note: Dinner from 7-7:30 pm is free and optional (pizza). Please consider attending to maximize the social aspect, and meet new people; possibly make some new friends! The actual presentation will start at 7:30 pm. This event is not recorded.

Directions during construction: After entering the school parking lot, take an immediate left and drive to the end and park (you'll dead-end at the construction fence). Enter the side door, near there, into the school.

Hi Tad-
I clearly stated there are no comments allowed at Facebook. You can post on the Discussion Board here. Nothing was deleted from the discussion board. I hope you can show up to a meeting in person for a good discussion.

It was nice meeting new faces and also seeing old friends. The mix was about 50% Christian and 50% atheist.

Organizer:

This is a group to discuss the issues between science and religion. All religious faiths (and atheists) are included and welcomed. Anything that deals with science and religion is fair game, such as:

-- Is there DNA evidence for evolution?
-- Were Adam and Eve real people?
-- Can Christians accept evolutionary theory?

Please only attend if you are sure that you can share your views in a respectful manner. Some people are unable and/or unwilling to discuss their views in a calm and rational way. This is for those few in our society who would like to engage other people of different religious outlooks on a intellectual level.

Guidelines and Rules

1. Respect the moderator. Be quite when requested to do such. The moderator's main roles are to monitor the 'temperature' of the meeting to keep it from boiling over, and to also try to make sure everyone gets a chance to talk (no one person dominating the discussion).

2. Don't try to convince and convert others. Simply share your opinion. If you want to convert others, that is a noble idea, but must be done outside the meeting. Consider building a relationship as a friend first. These meetings can introduce you to potential friends of different viewpoints.

About the organizer:

Bernie Dehler has a BSEET degree from OIT (1984), and a Masters in Ministry from Luther Rice University (2007). He has been working in the computer industry since 1984. Bernie left Christianity (and belief in the supernatural) in Sept. 2009, but still has a healthy interest in understanding the Bible better from every aspect possible, as well as learning about all other belief systems. Bernie is a Secular Humanist and member of various local humanist/atheist groups.
