just to let you know that the book for April will be Life after Life by Kate Atkinson. Thanks to all who voted!

The only reason I gave it four stars is because the venue is very noisy and I have trouble hearing in noisy environments.

Hi Pauline, yes it was quite noisy last night. We will have a think about whether there's something we could do about that. Maybe there's an area of the bar that might be a bit quieter. We'll bear it in mind.
Insightful discussion of the book by a group of very gracious people! Enjoyed it.
Interesting discussions as usual!
Sorry to leave it so late, but I can't make it tonight. Am unwell. Have a good evening.

Hello All,I can't make the meeting after all tonight. So sorry about that. I enjoyed the book and would rate it at a 4 because it was thought provoking and made me wonder which points in my own life I would use as 'reset' points. The book was very cleverly written and there was a consequence for each subtle change in Ursula's life. It made me realise that even with tiny changes, each life had a premeditated course. Hard work to keep track of all the parallels but definitely worth the read. So sorry to miss you all.

I am about to cancel as I am ill. If you want my rating of the book, it's 1. I persevered to the end simply because of the book club. I'm pleased that The Goldfinch was not selected - again I persevered to the end but I would have also given it a 1. The only reason that either of the books got a 1 rating rather than 0 is that there was descriptive writing evoking places that I am familiar with.
Hello all, unfortunately I won't be there tonight either because I'm only half way through the book, alas! I wish Shadow of the Wind had been chosen ;)
Looking forward to seeing you this evening. I'll be in the pub from about 7.00, all going well, to try and reserve a table. If you can't find me, give me a call on 07749 977406.
See you tonight.
Hi Catherine, I just wanted to drop you a line to say there is a chance I may not make this evenings meetup... Real shame. I have had mini emergency at home (nothing too bad) but means I am behind on some work I must get done for tomorrow! If I can get there I will, but just wanted to let you know. Sarah
Hi Sarah! Sorry to hear that. We will hope to see you but absolutely understand if you can't make it. Good luck!

I've read The Shadow of the Wind years ago... will have to re-read it if it wins. It's really, really good.

Once again a really tough decision to make. I want to read them all! But have just cast my vote :-)
I echo that Anya! So many great books to choose from!
I am glad I will be able to make the meeting. Did you decide the book yet?

Thank you Catherine, I look foward to meeting you all. :o)
Someone has mentioned to me that Kate Atkinson's 'Life After Life' is very good too - so I would second Rachel's suggestion!
Great discussion last night... the 'Great Africa' debate particularly interesting to me. I hold back on a nomination this month as the 2 books I was going to put forward have already been nominated! I think I may have found the right group for me! BTW, if The Shadow of The Wind is nominated...I have a spare copy I would be willing to hand over to someone...the penalties of having a physical library still!
Hiya, hope the discussion was good last night, sorry to have missed out. Anja I read this book a long time ago and it is indeed excellent. I have to say that I probably wouldn't read it again but would be happy to skim through. My nomination is the latest Kate Atkinson book Life After Life. I love this author and would enjoy sharing that experience with other members.
Just posted this in the March meetup even though it's the book for April. So here we go again: My suggestion is a slightly longer book (just over 500 pages) but it sounds like a book full of imagination: "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.
A group for anyone interested in reading and discussing books in the Weybridge area. We meet in a local pub on a Monday evening for a drink and chat. We pick books by vote each month. All welcome.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
