El Salvadorian Cuisine: Pupusas anyone?

I can't believe the last time I was here was in November 2008 with Meetup (on the eve of my Mexico vacation). I do love this place, but admittedly (despite my love affair with Mexico), Latin cuisine is not at the top of my list. But I have been spinning this one around in my head for a while but with so many centrally located places, I tend to forget.

Let’s DO IT! I miss having a good papusa.

What are papsusas? Pupusas are similar to the South American arepa. The main difference is the pupusa is made from nixtamal, whereas arepas are made from ordinary corn dough.

I am making this a weekend Meetup so everyone can get here without the worry of rush hour traffic. La Usuluteca is located on Murfreesboro Road in Antioch (near the Bell Road intersection), next to Sonic. How’s that for a landmark for you?

Menu: SORRY no website. You will have to trust me on this. I will work to get one and scan.

I really liked the plantains, pupusas and chips and salsa. And you can't beat the prices. Thanks for introducing me to this place. It was a great meetup with a nice group!

Bring cash for tip. There was no place on my credit card receipt for one. So you will need $2-3 for tip or ask the owner if he can add your tip when he checks you out!

I stopped in La Usuluteca tonight. Owner said they are busy with to go orders on the weekends so the kitchen may take a little longer than usual. There was a significant language barrier but he understood that we will need to tables for 8 each. They did not have any to go menus for me to scan, but the have a small "Mexican" section on the back, pupusas, empandas, fajitas and several chicken dishes. They also have Saturday specials including seafood soup). They have five tables for 8 and several more 4 seat tables. Hopefully everything goes smoothly!

p.s. I bought two pupusas for dinner ($2.50 each) which I brought home and was full after just one.

Honestly, now I really don't know what pupusas are!

      You will after Saturday!

You need to try an arepa and a pupusa to know the difference. I really consider a pupusa more like a quesadilla, but different. Are you confused yet?

I have to cancel, seeing my daughter that day. Letting the wait list clear some.

Taking daughter to airport early, early a.m., then setting up food and water for cat, dogs, chickens, packing more dogs and their stuff in the car, drop-off at sitter, then another meetup mid-day, and then leaving again. Don't see how we can cram in a single additional activity, even if it involves Rose and food.
