Urban Athletics: Coney Island Reggae Ride

  • This location is shown only to members

  • Whoa, the holiday weekend is here and I've noticed my activity calendar has a hole in it. And since Julie McCoy is nowhere in sight to plan my fun I'm going to have to figure this one out myself. I'm feeling mellow and nothing compliments a mellow mood better than some smooth reggae. Join me as I cycle out to Coney Island to check out the kickoff of the 2013 Coney Island Reggae on the Boardwalk series.

What's dat? It's the brainchild of radio host Carter Van Pelt, a summer time series of FREE, daylong Sunday events featuring reggae DJs playing through a "yard-style" sound system on the historic boardwalk at Coney Island. The crowd is chill, the music is delicious enough to make you sway, and the sun and sand are our backdrop. What more do you need?

Check out the kickstarter effort to keep these events rolling HERE and if you feel so inclined make a donation to the cause.

There's no cue sheet for this ride. I'll be moving as the wind blows so make sure you keep me in sight.

    The Important Stuff ...

    • Distance to ride will be about 25 miles round trip. This will be a casually-paced ride (10 - 12 mph) to the isle of coney.
    • We will be riding in bike lanes whenever possible but you should be comfortable riding in traffic and in a group. Helmets are strongly suggested. Bike lights are also recommended as we may be heading back likely after sundown.
    • Make sure your bike is in good working order before the meetup and bring a lock to leave our cycles. Bring a patch repair kit, air pump, and spare inner tube.
    • Please DO NOT RSVP if you do not seriously plan to attend as space is limited. No flakes allowed! If you RSVP and I notice that you have a number of no shows or have a history of last minute cancellations, you will be removed.
    • Sorry, no guests allowed for this one.
    • Rain cancels the meetup.
